Is tom nook a raccoon? šŸ¤”

I get that, but they aren't raccoons o:
They're still called raccoon dogs which is again because the resemble raccoons. Nothing you can do about that

Raccoon backwards is Nooccar (pronounced Nook-Are) So i believe he might be a raccoon due to his name being nook.

bruh yeah there's nothing i can do about it?? of course lol
but they... aren't raccoons, that's all i'm saying. this thread wasn't meant to be petty, it's people that make it petty that are the issue on stuff like this šŸ˜‹

in the american localized version he is a raccoon, yeah o: but it's just weird to me because he doesn't look like a raccoon to me at all

I think Nook might be a rat? Just a theory im thinking of
he's just a stinky money rat tbh that's all he is LOL

Tom Nook is a japanese animal, brown and has a tail. what do you all think? Probably a tanuki

my only thing is that i get he's like that because of localization, but it's a lot different than say, changing the gender of a character for localization. It's his entire design that resembles that of a tanuki vs a raccoon, so i'm just unsure why they'd localize that!

So it's cherry blossom :-} Do you speak japanese? So it's cherry blossom. It's ok to say it! :-} Cherry Blossom :)
i don't think they were trying to seem upset about it or have that big of an issue with it! They were just bringing up another example of localization.

Tbh I will kinda slightly agree, ā€œtanukiā€ is a bit more accurate because Japanese Raccoon Dogs are more related to dogs than raccoons but tbh I don’t think the difference is too major. It’s kinda similar to the terms cherry blossom/sakura or onigiri/riceball, which are localized a lot. I generally tend to use both terms interchangeably. From my own personal experiences, it’s usually weebs (not anime fans but full blown people who want to actually change their race to East Asian) who get really pissed at me for using terms interchangeably and that the only *proper* terms are the Japanese ones.

yeah that behavior is gross
again, it isn't really the localization that bothers me, it's more to me that they did it just because. Like, changing gender/name/etc of a character is simple, but the entire species of a character that looks nothing like the species they changed it to is weird to me o:
