The first few months after starting my town, whenever my villagers were outside they would always stay in the vicinity of their houses. Lately though I've been seeing them wandering around in other parts of the town. It seems odd to me that first they would always stay near their house, then all of a sudden I'd start seeing them all the way across town. Anyone have an explanation for this?
That is pretty normal, I wouldn't worry about it really. My villagers still do this on occasion and this almost 2 years later. Sometimes they will stick to their houses then other times they will be clear across town, just depends on their mood and how they interact with other villagers on any given day or if there are events going on. Also development as King Dad has said does play a role in some towns but not always it just depends. Flowers on the hand DO play a role. The more flowers there are the more the will wander around town and further from their house and plant more as well.
I noticed this that every time u log in, 5 or less certain villagers (some may be already in main street) will always be right outside their houses because they just exited. and the other side of the town? that's because they walk so fast it looks like they teleported.

The more pwp's you build, the more they enjoy socializing. My villagers are NEVER near their homes, lol. They are constantly all over the place. Also helps when you well-place your bridges so they have access to crossing the river. But yes, the more developed your town is, the more active and interactive your villagers will be
