I am missing quite a few pieces of clothing from my wishlist and I was wondering if these were locked in particular season like in NL. I ask because I have seen a few sweaters here in the summer months but I haven't seen certain pieces. Bizarrely though I popped a balloon and inside there was a Holiday (Christmas) themed sweater in it. So can balloon presents give you random seasonal wear?

I'm pretty sure ables tend to sell clothing you will use in the current season. That's my experience having winter and visiting islands in the summer, the selection is pretty different

Yes, both ables and kicks have seasonal clothing. It'd be pretty weird if ables had down coats in the heat of summer. Balloons can give clothing from any season.
I was wondering why it dropped a Holiday sweater! Though I have TT'ed to the fall months and checked through shops and haven't seen very many sweaters/coats. Are they more in the winter then?

Yeah in winter there’s a lot of sweaters and other winter looking clothes

I've had to trade with people to get most of my winter/fall stuff since my island is northern hemisphere and I don't TT! Occasionally I still get a few coats and boots over the summer but it's been 90% seasonal for the last two months!

The other answers are great; I just wanted to link you this website, which lets you filter out clothing by season if you're worried about missing any.

The only seasonal items are summer and winter, for whatever reason. Spring and fall don't seem to get any unique items.
That helps me out a lot, thanks! I mainly want some winter outfits for my villagers. So 'winter' officially starts in December?

I did a trade, a little while back, on an island that was set in winter. The person was kind enough to let me visit the shops, so I bought a set of celebratory candles (I think that's the right name?) and some faux fur hats and boots to go with a faux shearling coat I got from a balloon.

I can't wait to see the winter outfits. There goes my storage margin!

I mean technically even with the easter event, there were special clothing items you can only receive within the easter "season".
