Is there any incentive to keep doing the Bug-Off/Fishing Tournaments?

I was thinking about this earlier, and since we've only had one of each so far I haven't got an answer.

Do the prizes stay the same for every Tournament? Are the trophies the same? I heard that points do carry over between the respective Tournament, so if you were 30 points away from a Gold Bug Trophy at one Bug-Off you would be able to get it at the next tournament.

If nothing changes though, surely that makes the point of the tournaments null and void after we've done them a few times and everyone has the rewards? For example I got all of the rewards for the Fishing Tournament within an hour and then over the course of the day gradually, with teamwork from my friends, managed to get the Gold Trophy. But if the Tournament is the exact same the next time, what's the point of doing it again? Just for the same rewards and the same trophy I already have?

I might be (and I'm hoping I am) wrong about this - and the rewards do change seasonally, but does anyone know this? In previous games, the incentive to go back was just because it was a competition, and you wanted to beat the other villagers. It was also more difficult to get some of the rewards since it depended on you beating your previous best. Here, it's solely about grinding points for rewards.. but if those rewards don't change, then surely people once they've got them won't bother to do any of the other Tournaments, since you don't get anything new? I know I won't.

I was curious about the same thing, but suspect there are no added rewards. It seems like maybr they aren't expecting you to get gold in one day, and more like they think most people will spread it out over the year. I wouldn't mind doing more of the fishing contest just to get more of the items though. Perhaps a TT-er has some experience with this, otherwise fingers crossed they may add further content to keep us coming back in a future update.

Other than the Nook Miles Achievements for doing each of them when they're available, the only thing I can think of is the fishing items sell for a ton of bells/NMTs on Nookazon. Someone paid me 4 million bells just for the fishing rod stand.

If you don't need bells, then just the achievements, I guess. And as far as I know, the prizes don't change throughout the year, but someone that has done the fishing tourney all 4 times would have to confirm.

Do the collected Points Roll over to the next event so i can try again for the gold?

hopefully they update it then. but to me, the new bug off's & fishing tourneys are fun to do anyways. i don't i ever complete the items from new leaf this quick lol.

how about the stuff. Do i get new stuff if i did not get all of the collected bug stuff the 1st time around before i get spares?
That part I don't remember. I have the whole fishing set, but can't remember when I started getting duplicates. I want to say it was after I had one of everything.

Oof, I grinded to the gold trophy in the fishing tourney in spring and now I'm halfway to a silver trophy for this bug-off. On one hand since I personally dislike these events I'd be happy if I didn't need to grind every season for the items, but on the other hand I know a lot of people like these style of events and it'll suck for them if there's no incentive to keep playing.

There are a bunch of rewards I want multiples of, so I'll be keeping at it regardless, but I'm assuming that for 2020 the rewards will remain the same. The game is balanced around the majority of players, who are not going to grind up to gold on day one, but might get there by the final Bug-Off. If you've gotten everything you want out of it in it's current state on day one, then no, there will be no incentive for you to participate aside from the Nook Mile achievement.

Welp, so it is a waste of time then after a few Tournaments. What a shame.
It's a fun event with some rad rewards, not an expansion pack.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Firstly, it isn't difficult to get the rewards even on your own in under an hour. You'd have to barely play the Tournament to miss out on the rewards. Also, I was able to get the Fishing trophies quickly because the game encourages and rewards you with extra points for working together. We had lots of fun, and by the end of the evening I had a Golden Trophy. Not once was I intending to 'grind', not did I see myself as grinding - otherwise I would have stopped.

My issue here is the idea of the competition in its current state seems to make it difficult to need to come back save for getting the rest of the trophies - as the majority of people will have all of the rewards if not from the first tournament, by the time it comes around again they will have all of the prizes. Don't forget your points carry over too, so you'll probably get all of the trophies in just a few tournaments.

I think it would have been better if they had just made it a competition between you and the villagers again with a cute ceremony at the end, or changed the rewards every year (which could happen). I just don't feel like there's enough in these tournaments to make me want to come back after a few of them, which is a shame, since they are a lot more intricate and there is room for improvement.

:)

I think perhaps a majority of people on TBT will get all the rewards in one tourney.

I'd bet TBT-ers are not the majority of players, however. The game is scaled around kids and people who just casually picked up the game, not people who play for 10 hours in a day or have 800 hours logged in 3-4 months.

I like fishing and found the fishing tourney grueling.

I couldn’t stand this or the fishing tournament in ACNL. No personality to the hosts and the prizes were all hideous. But I love the way these are handled in ACNH. I actually want multiples of most prizes and the teamwork bonus makes it fun to really go all out. Plus I’m making decent bells. My partner and I are having a blast!

I'll be real, I got all the prizes except for the trophies with two hours of playing alone. Next bug-off I will grind for trophies and dupes of some of the items I like, so the point of next months bug-off isn't totally lost on me.

While it was easy I will also say... saying NL had more replay value in terms of bug-off is also not exactly true in my opinion. That game also had no new prizes added.

As far as NL and NH go, these two events were never intended to deliver a ton of content if you went all out on the grinding. I will give NL one point for being more difficult, but it was still also not exactly hard to optimize getting the most rewards. Just catch a lot of bugs and drip feed them to Nat. At most it would take you two bug-offs to complete the set in NL if you really set out to grind.

I also never lost to any of the villagers unless I flat out didn't take part in the event, so the contest aspect for me did not increase the replay value of the event at all. It will actually be nice to have all of the trophy tiers instead of so many golds i have to sell them if I don't strategically set out to lose.

I would definitely like it if there were new prizes eventually added, but I didn't expect anything more than what we got from these types of events.

I do miss the old bug set though. The realism of the new items is nice and all but... the bug set was so gosh darn cute.

My only incentive for doing the Bug-Off and Fishing Tournaments are that you get a stamp in your Nook Miles app for every season that you participate in each one. Other than that I don't think so, they likely just give duplicate prizes and not much else.

How many points do you need for each trophy? Does cashing them in for rewards mean they don’t count towards the total for trophies?

100 for bronze.
200 for silver.
300 for gold.

You can redeem points! You don't have to have the points "at hand" for them to count. You get the trophy mailed to you the next day so don't worry about waiting for Flick to say anything about it.
