Is there a clothing glitch?

Has anyone heard of anything like this? My bottom for villagers on the list will never wear anything besides their original clothing. I can give them something and they will change into it, but they immediately change out events by the next day and are wearing their original outfits again. I have read all that I can on it and I know that they have their preferences towards clothing, but even giving them clothing that they like they need to still will not wear it. I'm beginning to suspect that there is some sort of glitch in the code that keeps these four villagers or any that replace them from being able to wear clothing that is gifted to them?

All villagers have an inventory that they use, and they'll swap out things randomly. Its just how the game works.

Well I understand that is the case, it doesn't appear to to apply to the last 4 villagers occupying spots 7-10. I have even tried replacing one villager and the villager that took their place had the same problem of literally never wearing anything besides their initial clothes.

I believe the villager types make some more likely to quickly change out of the outfits you give them than others.
However if this is a glitch it has most likely already been picked up by the developers and is promptly going to be fixed in a following update

You have more than one villager doing this?! Ouch!
I've had this happen before but only with one villager. It was sometime around 1.6/1.7, though, so it wasn't recent!
Plucky literally was glued into her pink muumuu and the only time she'd be wearing any gifted clothing was when it was snowing, and it was a down jacket.
Her clothes were definitely in her inventory (I gave her a mini fridge so I could check her wardrobe), but nope, never worn after that initial try-on. Just in wardrobe limbo.

Just out of curiosity: were any of them invited through the campsite? Random or amiibo? Do you time travel? That's some of the circumstances I was in when I invited Plucky, and I have no idea if something I did inadvertently glitched her out when she moved in.

Other than recounting my experience, I'm sorry that I have no idea how to fix that, especially if their replacements inherit the problem!
