Personally, I think the campsite is really good for those who constantly change their villagers and who only really play the game for their villagers. In the beginning, the only thing I wanted was certain villagers and the game is only really enjoyable to me knowing I have the villagers that make me enjoy the game more than I would without them so the campsite was much needed for me. In my opinion, it all comes down to what you want. Are you the type who constantly change their opinions and base their priority on what villagers to have? Or are you the type who doesn't really care who you get? If you like certain villagers, then the campsite is definitely good to have since you may possibly get your dreamie you want by luck. I have had a wide array of many different villagers I never thought I would get move in that had caught me by surprise! (It also has the thrill of you never knowing who you are going to get lol) The campsite also changes between seasons, so it never stays the same in both interior and exterior looks, so you get to see something different every time, which is a pretty cool touch in my opinion.
The campsite is also not one of the "worst" projects you can build imo, as it is very "outdoorsy" and can make a really good setup for certain patterns. I have seen people make very creative things using their campsite so it adds a bit of "touch" if you will to your town, if you are going for the "I want an epic town" kind of look...not saying that having the campsite makes your town automatically "epic" but you get the idea. As I have said previously, it all depends on how you want your town. I mean hey, for all you know in the near future maybe a few months from now or so, you may actually want it! Whether it be for the look or for a villager you want, who knows? Even if you do get it and decide you "don't want it anymore" imo, it's not that big an eyesore to really make anyone think your town is bad personally.
