the timing of the update is so out of the blue, i know they also did the welcome amiibo update with ACNL but that was moreso to sell amino cards during nintendo’s amiibo surge.

part of me thinks this was designed to get the attention of the animal crossing community and we might get another dlc, update or even a switch 2 exclusive spin off game in the near future.

Surely there'll be a new game within the next 5 years, but I think this is just part of their launch year for the Switch 2. They put in the work to justify releasing a physical Switch 2 version, I think after this the team will continue focusing on the next title.

I have always thought being version 2.08 something was always an off number for me, and I have always wondered if they would make it a whole number. Maybe they waited for a specific time, this time where people were starved for more Animal Crossing content.
Doesn't mean I don't think we're that close to a new game yet. I never expected it this early for the new switch.

I really hope so. I'd be fine going without a new AC game for like another 5 years so long as they started updating ACNH again.

I still can't get over the fact that they said there would be no more big updates and yet here we are getting a big update? Like how does that work? Why did they change their minds?

I hope we get another update or DLC later. I have no issues with them keeping NH longer — even if that means getting the new AC later on. In any case, I don’t expect a new entry at least until 2027 or so

I'm willing to bet they pushed the Switch 2 out too early. Which is why we've gotten so many 'Switch 2' upgraded games. Nintendo is so infamous for this. The GameCube, Wii and Wii U all suffered because of this. Even the Switch sort of, but at least they had a few good launch games to hold it over unlike GameCube that only had Luigi's Mansion or the Wii U only had Nintendo Land.

They didn't have any plans to do more updates. We have to be realistic about that. There's no way they could anticipate 5 years into the future and know the Switch 2 would release and need filler to hold it over until they could bring out something substantial on the system. They took advantage of the unprecedented times and how much money this game made them to the point that I think they stopped their planned updates way before Nov. 2021 and only when consumers finally pushed back did they drop a 'final update' and went radio silent. They were literally starving us for updates when Pocket Camp was eating good to the point people were going feral over the Popsicle update lol.

I feel like if it wasn't for all the chaos that was the early 2020s that we would've seen an entirely different game (and probably better) that didn't coast on trying times and lockdown and people wouldn't have been so receptive of it.

tlrd this is just their way of making a 'new' game for the Switch 2 without all the extra work. I'm still going to play it and probably love it depending on what is brought over, but really how hard would've it been for them to give us bulk crafting, having flowers and other stuff in storage and all that other stuff been to implement back when this game was still getting barebone updates?
