Is marriage important?

nah i don't think it's important. but the couple can decide for themselves if they think it's important enough to get married lmao. i know i won't ever get married, but that's because i don't want to be in a relationship.

I think Marriage is an Official thing for a Relationship. It's to let people know you're spending the rest of your life with that person.

Not really. If it gives me some paperwork pros I could probably imagine a little ceremony for the sake of it but I hate those overly big expensive things people throw 24*7

Oh man I made an essay about marriage about my English class. Anyhoo, I believe marriage is just more for the legal purposes than happiness or what not. I know a couple who hasn't been married yet but they've been living happily for a long time, probably a decade now or so. It's just about what the person prefers. :)

Depends on the couple, as you can already see from this thread peoples views are different and so are relationships.

I don't think marriage is completely necessary, unless you're planning on having children with your significant other. I personally think you shouldn't have children with someone you couldn't see yourself marrying, and that marriage is more than a legal status. It signifies solidity and longevity in a relationship which is something young children benefit from and can learn from.

No, it's not important. Just do what you think is necessary. 53% of marriages in the US fail so just continue dating different people or stay single.

I think that's a very broad question and it depends on the person. I think marriage equality is important and the right to marry is important, but it really depends on the person. Are they religious? Do they love making grand gestures to show off their love? If so, probably yes. But to me personally, I'm not religious and to me love is just about spending time with the person and caring about them, so while I do sometimes think about marriage, to me it's not an "end goal" or something.

It's probably important if the married couple has kids so that one parent can't just completely ditch the other parent with the kids after a divorce because they have to pay child support. Other than that, I don't really know.

Marriage means nothing, it's just a silly religious ritual, it only means something to the people who cares about that stuff.

In my state they tried to get me to put my boyfriend on child support just because we're not married! We've been together for a long time and have never broken up, we're both raising the child. So I dunno about that.

Oh ok. I just did a quick look up on Google beforehand and it said it was about court-ordered payments typically for a divorced noncustodial parent. I didn't really know if it would work if the relationship wasn't under legalized marriage (hence court order) and I don't see how someone can get divorced without getting married. Just my thought process.

I can understand it for legal reasons, but it's really up to the couple. I've heard one story of a couple that was together for 60-65 years and then they decided "hey let's get married" and I think that's beautiful. I think I might have heard that from Jenna Marbles actually...it's the only video I've seen of hers lol. I pretty much agree with almost everything she says in that, but I haven't watched in since it came out, so idk how my thoughts would change nowadays.

Personally, I want to be married. I want to have a ceremony and invite close friends and family, but not do anything too huge or extravagant. I just want it to be fun and in a beautiful, relaxing place.

I can definitely understand why it would be important to others, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's important to me personally. I'd love to get married someday and I've always imagined that I eventually would, but really what I want is to find someone who I love and could spend the rest of my life with, and I think finding that would be enough for me regardless of whether or not we ever decided to get married.

Marriage is important because it shows that you are making a lifelong commitment* to someone.

*which can be voided by filing for divorce

to each their own! id only get married with a strict prenup to ensure there wouldnt be any divorce difficulty should things come to that, but if my partner never wanted marriage, thatd be fine as well! i also dislike rings, or jewelry in general, so i wouldnt wear any jewelry for them or anything. id get married if my partner desired it, but i prolly wouldnt press on it myself.
