So, with the Welcome Amiibo update, one of the new features is selling your town to Tom Nook for bells, depending on what it's worth. To my knowledge, if you have at least a level 3 tree in your town (which corresponds to hours you've played), when you choose to recreate your town Tom Nook will show up and ask if you want to recreate your town (you can back out of it if you decide not to, though) and whatever the 'value' of your town is, you'll get that amount paid to you either straight away or in weekly payments if you want, straight into your bank account. I think the idea behind it is if you've abandoned a town you put lots of work into, you can get paid for Tom Nook to take it over.

I haven't seen many threads really discussing it in depth so I wanted to ask if there was anybody who had actually sold their town and whether it was actually worth it? Would you/wouldn't you do it again?

That's so interesting, I hadn't heard of that. Where did you find out about this?

I sold my first town to the slumlord known as Tom Nook, but mostly because I'd been wanting to reset it for a long time.

I ended up getting 999,999,000 bells for it. I regret nothing! Plus all of the villagers I wanted to keep are currently living in one of my other towns.

I saw a Nintendo screenshot of someone getting 999,999,999 bells for selling their town and I looked into it, I thought it was quite interesting but I was too invested in my town to give up on it just yet. I think it's for people who got into it, left for a few years and just got into it and wanted a fresh start. It's a neat idea, in my opinion. But there were quite a lot of people who heard about it and accidentally lost their town cause their tree wasn't level 3+ so you need to have played a while.

That sounds awesome! How did you transfer them to your other town? I'm quite intrigued now lol. I've wanted a second town for cycling for a while now but haven't had the money just yet.

Wow my town is probably worth 17 bells :<

You never know ;) I thought my town would be worth nothing but it's worth 12,839,903 lol. Only try it if your tree is level 3 or up, people have learnt that the hard way x.x

My heart was so jumpy while I was checking my town's value, but I found that it is worth 72,596,052 bells! I had no idea it would be that high!

I don't think I have the heart or nerves to risk ALMOST resetting my town just to find out its value. If I ever get bored, I'll calculate how much everything in my catalog is worth, and all the items in my museum, and all my flowers and the total value of all my PWPs. It'll take longer, but it'll be much better for my health. ;A;

Mine was worth about 40,000,000 when I sold.. been playing on that (old one I sold) since july. New town is great plus the bells is nice. Not really starting over :P

Do the bells from the old town count towards the bell-saver badge in your new town?

I'm not sure if it's the same as what you're referring to, but I do recall selling my town and phineas showing up the next day and gave me like 2 money badges in a row. He also gave me badges for the catalogue. I think my town was worth 50,000,000 at least. I don't regret selling my town and I'm glad I did. I don't have much time to farm bells on the island so it's nice to have some savings I can just dip into. It's basically good for people who want to start fresh with landscaping, villagers etc. but then keeping your pwp list and all that good stuff ;)

Do you really get to keep your PWP list??

It's a pretty cool feature tbh. I ended up with 34,165,421 bells after I sold mine. Currently sitting at 50million thanks to me making files while plot resetting and getting all the money off the deleted reset files. (◍?ᴗ?◍) Keeping the catalog lifts a weight off your shoulders knowing you can get all your pwps and furniture back with relative ease.

I was at ~52 million for my town and ~55 million for total (including catalog) IIRC. Last I checked how much my town was it was around Nov. 20th.

Yes you do! But only the ones that your villagers and Resetti requested to you, and the topiaries from Weeding Day. The others you'll have to unlock again. (main street stuff, caf?, and the ones from getting a perfect town. Not sure about the train station renovations, but I'm pretty sure you have to reunlock those too)

Wow that's amazing! At least the other ones aren't gained by luck so that's fine. I wouldn't have wanted to wait for pings before unlocking PWPs all over again! This makes it even more tempting to do reset.. If only the museum carried over as well! I would definitely do it then.

I would not even try. No amount of bells could pay off all that progress, and the friendships I've formed with my villagers.

I used Homebrew to back up my save just in case I change my mind. I reset, then didn't like my colourful cast of creatures, so I loaded my backup save.
Thank GOD for Homebrew.

I've recently sold my town, I backed my old town up just in case you couldn't keep your PWP's you have unlocked and it turns out you could so I'm more than happy with the amount of bells I have and the fact I don't have to wait for villagers to request PWP's again. c:
