I haven't been playing much AC as of late, but I attempted to do the Easter Egg thing yesterday and forgot to smash all the rocks since I rarely had time to do anything in the game yesterday. According to a few friends, the rocks stay there permanently if you don't smash them? Is this a glitch, or is this 100% false?

Do you think it'd be a good idea for me to TT back to yesterday, smash all the rocks, and then TT to today to avoid this from happening? I really don't need 20 rocks in my town, thank you.

According to animal crossing wikia:
There is an uncommon bug in Animal Crossing: New Leaf that will cause 2/3 of the rocks generated on Bunny Day to turn real afterwards. This can cause serious issues, such as forbidding access to certain parts of town such as the beach. Be sure to break all fake rocks before the day is over to cease this from happening. It has been reported that time travelling to a day after Bunny Day, then loading the game, then turning off the system without saving, can fix this issue.

So I can just turn on my game, then reset without saving and it should work? Or is that for people who skipped Bunny Day completely?

Ahh, i'm not sure. I feel like your best bet would be to TT back to yesterday and smash all the rocks. (I'm not 100% sure on this though.)
