is it possible to “fake” someone moving out?

since we have the cardboard boxes as diy recipes, wouldn’t it be possible to summon someone on your island to harvey’s island and go into one of the side rooms? and make it look like they’re moving?

You can't fake someone moving with harv's island (room too big and no animation), but you can fake it when someone moves in, as it will look the same.

I wonder if people actually look for the brooms? I don't know, I always trade for free villagers anyway... The 'moving in' screenshot is an interesting trick. I wonder how many people actually do that.

But Harv's Island sounds like a lot of effort. It would take me less time to make a screenshot of my character saying my discord code and then photoshop the message bubble onto someone else's screenshot.

this is a good point, if someone was going to fake a move out this would be a much easier way. also this picture confirms that Harv's island would be impossible to use because of the room size!

I suppose if you are worried about getting scammed, maybe do a lot of research on the trader by reading their reviews? And I would also recommend trading on this forum as opposed to Nookazon or discord because I've heard some pretty nasty stories from those websites!

I guess for the most part you can make it look as though they are leaving. They won't act that way though but I don't know if that's important for a photo.

Maybe I have too much faith in other players, but I usually don't worry about who I trade with. For high value trades I would definitely make sure who I was dealing with though!

I'm pretty sure Nookazon offers a service where you can get an independent middle man for trades above 200NMT/2mil IGB. That would also be smart!

Actually with photoshopping the speech bubble, there's still a difference between a fake and real. It's pretty subtle, but the bubble should be slightly transparent, but in a fake like yours, it's totally solid.

Actually with photoshopping the speech bubble, there's still a difference between a fake and real. It's pretty subtle, but the bubble should be slightly transparent, but in a fake like yours, it's totally solid.

The room size should be the same when a villager is moving in or out of their house. If you're talking about Harv's island, then yes, the room's too big.

I think scammers will think of new ways to scam whether we give them ideas or not. It's better that more people know of the different tricks than to keeps the different scam methods hushed up.

But, IDK... to be honest the one time I bought a villager from someone they didn't have any screenies that I recall. I just trusted them... and it worked out great, as I got Marina, as you can see in my avatar ☺

Yeah, with most villagers, even without a screenshot, it won't be a scam and everything will be fine. The problem is with the new super popular villagers like Raymond and Judy where there are a lot of scammers and people who've been scammed. TBT's rating system makes it really safe here, but on other places like Nookazon, it's a lot more dangerous.
