This wouldn't matter to me anyways because I always make the payment for a villager after I convince them to move to my town, never before.

That makes sense, but I can also imagine the person who's selling could possibly get scammed if the person convinced them to move, then just... left. Or quit after it auto-saved. When I bought Marina I paid before because, IIRC, I had less feedback then the person selling, and I didn't want them to get nervous

Yeah, with most villagers, even without a screenshot, it won't be a scam and everything will be fine. The problem is with the new super popular villagers like Raymond and Judy where there are a lot of scammers and people who've been scammed. TBT's rating system makes it really safe here, but on other places like Nookazon, it's a lot more dangerous.

Yah, I've only used this website for any kind of trades or anything so far (other than my RL friend visiting, but I knew she wouldn't do anything bad). The ratings system is an awesome idea and I've only ever met really nice people here

I mean there's always the chance of scamming. In my personal experience I've always convinced them to move first, and then I give the payment. That's generally how I've seen people run it as well. I think paying first would make me more nervous.

See, it would've made me more nervous to think they could potentially be nervous... because I'm just way nicer than I should be and I overthink everything

I don’t think it’s possible fortunately. If it’s a very popular villager like Raymond or Judy then definitely ask for screenshots with the username and date

If I'm going to spend more than like 10 NMT or any comparable currency on a villager I'm going to make sure the person sends a screenshot with their name and date in it before I even go there. Even that can be photoshopped with old posts online! It's so hard to avoid being scammed, especially on discord and other groups where there isn't a clear feedback/rating system or clear consequences.
