When I visit islands, it gives me bad anxiety to have to type things out, so I often rely on emotes in the game to do the job for me! When I enter a town, I wave, give off flowers, etc to show my appareciation to the person for letting me visit. I also thank them afterwards in dms!
Do you guys think this is okay? What do YOU do in towns to communicate? o:
I mostly just use the reactions too because typing is not user friendly. I usually only use it if someone is adopting a villager and I check to make sure dialogue went as planned.
I love when people use emotes instead bc then I don't have to use my app to type instead TT v TT It also makes things go by faster and there's less awkward pauses!
I think emotes are okay but I always have the switch online app open to make sure I say hello. The hello/waving emote is nice. If someone doesn’t do either then I do feel a little like... okay then? Not to where I’d leave a bad review or anything but I just feel like it’s nice to say hi and bye.
I think the emotes work just as well, usually I like messaging on whatever platform I'm talking to the person on cuz I'm too lazy to get my phone out or type sometimes
I usually say things that are quick to type out like "hi!!!", "ty!!!" and "np!!" like that with a bunch of exclamation marks haha. But I think it's totally fine when people just use the emotes to me when they visit, because I know how stressful trying to type can be. Especially if your switch is docked to the TV!
I'm really bad at the in-game keyboard myself, but I'll warn my visitors of that ahead of time through messages here. I 90% of the time use emotes in the game instead, then I'll type out a proper message in DM here thanking them and such. Again though, I let people know ahead of time that I'll be speaking minimally in game. I'd feel rude to just show up on an island and not speak at all or respond to messages.
I think there's a lot of people who find typing on the Switch to be tedious, so I don't think there's anything wrong with just emoting if that's what you prefer! Personally, I usually use the Switch Online app to type from my phone, which makes it a lot easier.
I usually type "hi!" if the person whose island I'm visiting isn't by the airport, but if they're right there then I'll just use the greeting emote most of the time~
It really doesn't matter, especially for simple transactions where communication isn't needed beyond what you've already arranged through the site.
In some situations with time pressure or multiple visitors coming, typing or even emoting at them can actually be annoying to the host because it slows down the process.
I've seen a few people now express anxiety or stress over having to communicate in game, or feeling like they aren't communicating enough in game. It's really not necessary to indicate good faith and good manners when you can use your in-game behavior to show that (emoting, dropping your items before trying to pick stuff up, etc.)
I'm the person who always appreciates when people say hello! But that doesn't just mean actually typing out on the keyboard. Just any type of greeting works for me. If I type "Hello" and someone responds with an emote, thats absolutely fine on my end!
Yeah, I think most ppl emote because typing sucks in game. I always wave or at least type hi because i also get lowkey anxious about just running in and out of someone's island in complete silence
i think as long as you interact with the host in some way, you're good. i like when people say hello, but a wave does the trick too. i just don't like it when people come and go without acknowledging me at all
I've been playing on a big screen with a controller lately and it is an absolute pain to type. I only usually type hi and bye and use the wave reaction lol. I have the Nook Link thing but I never remember to turn on my phone before trading with someone. The main thing I miss about handheld is the touchscreen, it's much easier to type with that xD
I don't think it's rude to not say anything, some people just wanna get transactions done as quick as possible and I definitely understand not wanting to type if they're using a controller.
I type when I can but usually just use emotes and probably more than half of the people I've played with do the same from my experience with them. I don't feel offended when they remain silent, and they at least give me a hello or a wave but if they do not that is also fine. On the rare occasions where I fumble and I'm either emoting or silent for some reason I will let them know why via the forums to make sure they don't think I was being rude. I want every transaction to be pleasant.
