I want to play like jimi hendrix but my thumb cant reach around the neck of the guitar well enough and now im sad but i hope im wrong and ill be able to stretch somehow
I just looked it up because I was curious and I found tons of articles and videos that all seem to agree that it is indeed possible to play a guitar with small hands. I'm sure it'll be a tough journey, but lots of incredible feats have been attained through sheer determination. I'd say go for it if you're willing, learn all the tricks you can for overcoming these difficulties.
Yes they can. I have small hands and did not have an issue becoming decently proficient. There are probably some chord structures I could not do, but they fall into the category of more obscure shapes in my opinion. You can do stretches to make your fingers more flexible and reduce risk of injury if you find yourself stretching to make certain shapes.
To further complicate the picture, not all guitar necks are the same width. You can find guitars that work better for you than others. For example, for small hands, a classic guitar with the nylon strings likely will not be a good fit as the neck is very wide. On the other hand, some random no-name-brand semi-hollow electric guitar is likely to have a pretty narrow neck which would be a good fit.
Yes, it's possible. You might need to do extra work or find techniques that work for you but it's doable. Just look at the amount of videos of prodigy kids playing guitar.
for any guitarist with hand woes, look no further than Django Reinhardt, who managed to waltz his way into the annals of guitar history with but two able fingers on the fretboard after suffering extensive burns early in his life
Angus Young of AC/DC is a tiny dude with small hands and he's not bad,eh?I saw AC/DC sometime in the late 70's and I was in the front row and I can attest to that.Andrés Segovia was a very famous classical guitarist and his fingers looked like stubby sausages.Not everyone can play like Jimi Hendrix...he was a freak of nature.I've read that his hands were around 10.5 inches long from fingertip to wrist.That's and inch longer that a standard Nintendo Switch with joy cons attached.There are some guitars that are easier to play for the small handed.The Gibson SG(Angus Young's main instrument)has a shorter scale and a smallish body.Fender makes some 3/4 scale Squire Stratocasters and I think Rickenbacker still makes a 3/4 scale guitar.
I have small hands as well and am going to be learning guitar soon, hopefully. But I do know that it is possible! Maybe a smaller guitar neck? I'm not completely sure, maybe try stretching out your hands a bit before playing.
