Is "Dakota" a male or female name?

i always think of it as a guys name just because there's a dakota in the grade above me and he's a boy

I know one Dakota that's a guy. Names ending in 'a' are generally more feminine sounding, so if I had to choose maybe female, although I would choose gender neutral if possible.
