I just had a minor SNAFU with another forum user.

  • I went to their town to adopt a villager, gave him the "Move to my town", he agreed.
  • I came out of his house, ready to leave, and at this point another player unexpectedly came into the town, saving the game.
  • I went on to the station and chose to leave.
  • At this point, the host's connection dropped, giving me the Resetti error and dumping me back in my own town.

I believe the villager in question is now "Moved Out" in the other town, but we don't know if he's actually saved to my town. The third player's arrival caused the game to autosave, but I don't know if that saves everything or just your inventory when you're visiting.

Basically: If you adopt a villager, save in the other town, then get disconnected before you get back to your own, does that villager still move in? Has anyone had anything like this happen and what was the result?

I have never had this happen to me so I can't comment specifically, but if the host checked that the villagers' door said 'Moved out' after you had left, then I am sure the villager will move into your town. :)

I've heard after adopting a villager from a different town that if you don't leave normally (by train or kicked out), there's a good chance the villager might have been lost to the void xC

My friend came to pick up Pecan once...and I saved and then kicked her out. She ended up with Spork (who moved out recently)

Macaron126 - that's the outcome I'm worried about. Would be nice to hear from someone who's had this happen either way D:

Did the villager state that he/she will move to your town?

If the answer is "yes," that villager's move should be to your town.

I would think that the other human visitor would have no effect unless he/she spoke with the departing villager.

What I would do, as host, is close the gate after the adopter arrives. Then, as the one adopting out the villager, I would go inside the house with the adopter and get confirmation, from that departing villager, that the move is to the adopter's town. (Just to be extra safe.)

If another player comes to the town, then the villager won't move in. Idk why... :c
It happened to my friend Nkosazana. :c

I haven't experienced this. But this does tell me that the host needs to close the gate after the adopter arrives so that no one else can come to that town out of which the villager will move.

This is crazy stuff!

Whenever I hosted people for adoptions, I always, always, always closed the gates immediately after they arrived. No excuse not to.

Yeah, and it's terribly unfair too. :c

At any rate, sounds like I'm not getting that poor guy :( And I was adopting him in the first place so he wouldn't get voided!

Having read the responses (thanks all) my theory is that when you're in a foreign town, saving will save the host's whole town but only what's in your inventory/storage - which is the sensible thing to do from a programmer's point of view.

This would explain villagers vanishing into the ether when the visitor doesn't make it back to their own town:

The host's file saves "villager = moved out".
The visitor file only saves what's in their pockets. Which doesn't include "villager = to move in"

tl;dr close your gates when you've got someone over to do an adoption, particularly if you have people on your friends list who like to drop in randomly.
Case closed?

Sounds like the majority is that he won't move in now, but maybe if he's the only villager in the void, he'll move in any way? Either way, good luck!

I don't believe he'd go into the void at all - on the host's file he'd be saved as "moved to another town". Meaning he really would disappear permanently; after all they don't go into the void pool if they've moved elsewhere, and that's what the host's game thinks he did.

Still, I'll find out at some point over the next few days, I suppose. It would be nice to be wrong about this!

This has been talked about before... Where the game saves in their town AFTER they have agreed and then an error occurred... the adopter never got the adopted villager and the other town could not let anyone else adopt the villager from void either because their game thinks the villager has a new town. It really sucks...
And this is more reason why I basically keep no one but my husband and cousin on my friend list... and even still, I immediately end session after successful adopt convo ((if I'm not host))

Ah, poor Chadder. He's one of my favorites, but alas, you cannot have him. Anyway, it's very unlikely that you'll be able to get him now. You're most likely correct about how the game saves, (only saving inventory when someone is over) but I do believe this is partially the host's fault for not closing the gates... although the connection dropping is a stroke of bad luck, I suppose.

Whaaat? i've adopted villagers before and been booted by the host, but the villager moved in just fine. OP, I think you'll be ok.

I always end when someone comes to adopt, and I always get ended when I adopt. It's always worked out so far.
