I'm currently thinking about redecorating my house because I've been getting bored by most of my rooms and the way they look like at the moment. And I was wondering... Do you prefer using a full series to decorate a room or do you mix and match furniture to your liking? And do you care about interior themes, such as rustic or modern, that are listed on MoriDB?

Until now I've always been using a series, refurbished a few items and added items that either have the same theme or no theme to spice things up a little. But that's very limiting and I was hoping to come up with something a bit more creative. That's why I've been asking the question above. I'm still pondering and trying to plan.

I love the idea of themes and rooms...you could make a bathroom, kitchen, ice cream parlor, nursery, beach, study, caf?, greenhouse, lab, horror room, bedroom, living room, dining room, den, movie theater, bowling alley, on and on and on...

I'd really like to see a movie theater room, you could get creative with that idea.

I have a couple rooms with full series just to get the HHA points, but overall I prefer mixing and matching :) my main house is the only one with full series, the rest are all themed...! I have a school and a japanese style inn, and I'm planning to make my last house a movie studio when I finally decide who I want as my last permanent villager and don't need to do plot resetting anymore haha ; u ;

I think being strict with a series is kind of boring. You can be so much more creative when you take other items that match a series as far as color and specific concepts go. So I do try to follow the interior themes, such as the harmonious, rustic, toy, modern, etc. Those are especially helpful.

I MUCH prefer to mix and match.
Full set rooms are pretty boring and repetitive to me...
And overall I prefer houses that have a real "home" and cozy feeling, and that make sense.
As in they have a kitchen a bathroom a living room, etc...
I find it kinda weird when people make every room in their house a full home, with a bed in each room and such.
It just doesn't make sense to me...

@ Gummysaur
Thanks for your input! I had a few of these ideas, but it's always good to hear something new. :D

@ nammie
Yeah, I guess HHA points were the source of my problem. I was so focussed on points that I got stuck there after doing the theme challenge. My house still has the golden exterior because I barely changed anything since that time. Your town sounds really interesting, though! I think I'll visit your place in a dream soon. Maybe I'll find more inspiration. :)

@ Uffe and Titi
I agree with you. That's the main reason why I want to change my rooms. Every room offers the same kind of furniture and that gets dull pretty quickly. I was way too lazy and uninspired after the theme challenge.

before actually redecorating my house, i made sure i just placed a bunch of sets in the rooms to earn my gold badge!!

rooms with just series seem pretty boring to me…. so i really prefer mixing furniture and decorating depending on my interests. my main room is a mix of the princess, weeding, and regal series along other random plant-like furniture because i’m studying and i have a huge love for botany. just get inspired by something you like and work from there! good luck ;v;

I don't even bother with the HHA stuff.
I decorate my home the way I like it, end of story. Lol!

I mix and match. My house has the full shanty exterior (it's affectionately referred to as Murder Castle) so the interior's decked out to be pretty much as creepy and weird as possible. The master bedroom mainly has sloppy furniture, but I hate the sloppy wall and floor so I've got shanty wall and ramshackle floor, which feels a lot more like the run-down/patched together thing I wanted. I also have a creepy Frankenstein lab and a mad scientist torture room with all the essentials (chemicals, pet scorpion, toy hammer, electric chair, fire extinguisher...)

Technically my theme is Quirky, but my score's abysmal now since I refuse to remove the villager pics and other non-Quirky items. Whatever, I already got access to the golden house bits and I'm never going to install them anyway :)

Your main room sounds awesome, sally! And thank you!
I'll try to escape boredom soon because I'm really fed up with my house right now.

@ jolokia
Wow, many other great ideas! I don't plan to make my house look creepy or quirky, but yours seems to be exciting. Do you have a dream address? Would you share it? I'm so curious, haha.

I think my creativity just started breathing again thanks to you guys! I definitely want a spa, a reading corner, maybe even a library or lounge area with art and globes and Gulliver items, a kitchen or bakery or bistro, maybe a music room, a winter garden... This already feels so much better than the old stuff I'm carrying with me. :D

HHA killed me, I followed its rules until the very end. When I completed the theme challenge, it felt like I was being released from prison. I completely redecorated my entire house and now I'm happy :D

I try to make my houses seem like, y'know, houses. They all tend to have a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. I usually try to mix series, because I tend to only like some pieces from each. Although if I really, really want the HRA points, I'll put in a full series and then switch it out once I get whatever award I wanted.

Updated the DA, here you go: 6000 3509 2919

Town's always a work in progress. I'm pretty satisfied with the house though.

I cluttered my house to the max just to get the HHA max points. Now I'm working on actually making rooms that you'd find in a house. Living area, kitchen, bath, bedroom, study, and back porch (this last one is a maybe). I'm gonna mix and match furniture, taking full use of Cyrus' refurbishing skills. c:

I couldn't have said it any better, Gummysaur. I just have to reach that state of happiness. :lemon:

@ Regina
Haha, exactly! I have no idea how I could lose sight of that. A house should be homey, shouldn't it? Or at least personal and special in some way. Mine is more like a catalog, totally vanilla... *yawns*

@ jolokia
Thanks so much! I will definitely check it out. :)

@ Ettienne
Looks like we're in the same boat, hehe. Good luck!
It would be cool to see some "before and after" pictures Later. :)

I don't care about the theme of the furniture, but I care more about matching items to my personal satisfaction. Like the beige customized ranch furniture looks p good with the light green customized furniture. Just have one plain set/series is boring. Mixing and matching is where your creativity really shines. Other creative ideas is replicating real locations or scenery in your favorite movies/shows/books.

I pretty much do whatever I like. I start with an entire set that I love. For example, the entire sweets, princess, rococo, mermaid, etc. Then I add in bits and pieces to decorate. Some sets only have a couple of cute pieces, so they go in where I can use them best. I'm a liiiiiittle bored with some of my rooms, since they've been the same pretty much forever. But I also don't want to change them because I love them overall still. It's a dilemma.

for some reason rooms with well-mixed stuff really appeals to me the most. But a full set room is perfectly nice, it just feels like the same as most other peoples' full set rooms.

I need to redo my rooms some to be more imaginative so I'm not as bored. :)

But a full set room is perfectly nice, it just feels like the same as most other peoples' full set rooms.

That's true. I definitely prefer to see other people's rooms that are based on a creative theme, versus just throwing in the usual set pieces. But while it's boring to have a whole set, it somehow appeals to by OCD tendencies.
