i'd still prefer the card version, but this is still kinda cool

One major drawback to this:

"3DS releases will be stored on an SD card but won't be playable on devices it was not downloaded on."

If I'm reading this right, Animal Crossing for the 3DS will be a retail AND downloadable game?

I agree, I'd rather buy the card because I want to save my SD memory for downloadable e-shop games, pictures, or music, extra data basically.
Plus if I ever get tired of a game and don't want it anymore, I wouldn't be able to turn it into gamestop for cash. I believe that we can still turn in 3DS games, not sure about WiiU. Even if WiiU games won't play on another persons system, I'd still buy the disk because I want my SD card for extra data

Then again, it would be nice to have games stored on the SD card in case you are good at losing game cards or don't like carrying them around so much.

If I were to buy a copy of a game that was a special edition version and download the game via Nintendo eShop, I would be able to keep the game new and sealed.

Think of this... with every handheld system every year or two Nintendo will release an "upgrade". DS, Lite, XL, DSi, etc... GBA, Micro, SP, etc...

So let's say you have a 3DS... you skip the next couple updates, but 3 years from now you buy the 3DS ___. You're out of luck, can't play any of the games that you bought!

I think they fixed that with the system transfer option in the settings.

Well, they also need to have some account system finally to keep track of your owned games. System Transfer is great and all, but what if you lose your 3DS instead? Then how will you get your games back if you don't have a 3DS to transfer from? What if it gets damaged so much that it loses the data?

Exactly. Having the option is nice, but I'd rather keep that space for downloadable games like Pushmo and 3D Classics.

yeah this. like why waste (i guess it's not waste since you want it so i guess use but w/e) space on an SD card when the game card does the same thing

I remember reading about some guy who lost his Ambassador 3DS to a car fire around Christmas time on r/3DS, I think Nintendo authorized his new one. Obviously save data was lost, but he got his games back.
