I was having a conversation with my brother the other day, and he stated he was disappointed they didn't make the items interactable in this game. Like being able to actually get items out of the vending machine. To play on the jungle gym or ride the springy horse. To actually be able to soak in the outdoor baths or swim in the pools, ride the teacup ride, etc. He said he'd rather have an animal crossing with like 60 items that you actually can fully interact with, rather than 400 decorations that do nothing but sit there.

I thought it was an interesting concept to consider and thought I'd pose the question to you guys. What would you prefer of those two choices? I'm kind of half and half on the concept. If I knew we could get items you can fully use, I may be willing to give up having 8 different color choices of each item (an exaggeration, yes). But then again, I love having so many choices. Yet again, not having them do anything but mostly sit there...the sacrifice may be worth it. Share your thoughts!

I think I'd be okay with sacrificing some item variations for items you (and your villagers) can interact with. I feel that would make the island seem more 'alive'. I think it'd be fun to see my villagers actually get a drink from the drink vending machine.

I think they could stand to make a few more items have minor interactions, as well. Like why can't all sinks be turned on? The ironwood kitchenette sink can be turned on, yet the very expensive system kitchen or kitchen island can't be. I'd just like a bit more consistency, if anything...

I totally agree, if anybody has played/heard of Maplestory 2 i think a concept like that would be amazing! But at the same time, items have never been interactive in any AC game (to that extent anyways), so it might distract from Nintendo’s concept of the game.

I think it's cute that we can sit on the jungle gym. Whenever I see a villager sitting on one I always "Aww..."

There are some items that bother me more than others. Like the Elephant Slide. I think a sliding animation would be cute. But for the most part, it doesn't really bother me. If there were say... 60 items that could be interacted with and less items overall, I think that would ultimately mean there would be more islands that would seem like exact replicas of each other. I'd rather have the variation if it meant choosing.

That said, I think it would be amazing to get an update, and wake up one day and see villagers soaking in the outdoor bath or relaxing in the pool. It would be very welcome, but not a game changer.

Yeah the inconsistency is frustrating.

Gym equipment for example: you can punch the bag and lay down on the weight bench. However, you can't do anything with the exercise bike other than turn it on and nothing at all with the pullup bar.

This is an interesting point. I do think the interactive objects are the most enjoyable. Case in point, the musical instruments. When I first discovered you can play along to whatever is playing on your music player, I was so happy. And now the animals can play with you too! That's probably the best feature they added to NH - things like that. I would love to see even more, but I guess that would make the game too difficult to make for Nintendo without taking that much more time/money. I guess it's a balance.

I'd prefer how we have it right now actually
I love decorating my island, and having all the color options is really amazing,
compared to the old games when I loved certain designs but not the color we were given
though I do agree that there is a bit of inconsistency with the item interaction..

but for example, if your villager would be sitting in a bath you wouldn't be able to give items to them etc. right?
so it just doesn't make sense to me that they would be able to do those things

Yeah, I'm assuming that'll be the "next big step" in the AC franchise. We've never been able to fully interact with items (only some of them, as mentioned above). I'm glad that now villagers actually interact with those items (unlike in previous games).

That would be amazing. It'll be like Sims and how the people in the game are able to fully interact with items.
