Inside Furniture Outside

I don't know if it's just me, but I absolutely hate inside furniture outside. Which is probably why 50% of my island is still bare.

An outdoor diner, library, etc is like visual nails on a chalkboard to me. I can appreciate a well-decorated space, some outdoor libraries I've seen are beautiful - after all, good design is good design, but then I like turn the corner and see a tree or grass and the illusion is lost for me. Or when a diner is only separated by a fence, and it is the true diner set (not an outdoor seated cafe - that makes sense for me with outdoor seating). And don't even get me started when it rains - seeing that furniture in the rain makes my skin crawl.

Pocket Camp has so many cute gazebo's and attractions and types of plants. I can only hope that they'll continue to roll out new furniture like the did with PC.

Is anyone else like this? Or are you okay with setting up little tableaus outside?

It doesn’t bother me personally, but I really enjoy seeing villagers interact with objects/furniture (like musical instruments), and they seem much more likely to interact with things if they are outside.

Yeah I'm not a fan of deconstructed buildings and outside things.... but I think the creativity involved is SO cool! I think a lot of it looks pretty clunky though I don't know how on Earth I'll get enough furniture out there, probably just a lot of wooden stakes lol!

I’m very practical when it comes to decorating my island, so I avoid putting things like bookshelves, beds, sofas etc outside.

I also like being able to interact with furniture, so I space things out accordingly. I just feel so restricted seeing a table pressed up against a couch so that you can’t even sit on it. Some of my villagers houses are designed like that and it bothers me, lol. Feels more like a model home than something you live in.

I feel the same way! The outdoor libraries are so cool and creative, but I can't bring myself to do that on my own island because I don't like the thought of all those books and couches getting wet in the rain, even though it's all just virtual?

It’s not just you. I can appreciate a decorated space and the illusion of a building but if it rains then the illusions is broken. I prefer to keep my indoor furniture indoors and outdoor furniture outside.

Yeah I'm always worried for all the instruments and electronics I set outside when it rains. But I like seeing my villagers interact with them so I leave it out :)

I’m also a bit iffy on it. They’re nice to look at but personally, I’m more into the foresty rural look rather than a bustling cosmopolitan. Unfortunately, to get the five star rating, I had to compromise and build a lot of developed spaces. It is indeed fun though to see the animals interacting with the objects. Although I was able to keep mostly outdoor furniture only outside, I still don’t like the look of a fully decked out island. I got the golden watering can now but I’m still waiting to collect a few more Jacob’s Ladders or Lilies of The Valley then after that, I’ll terraform again to make my island into what I really wanted, which is mostly nature-y without outdoor restaurants or fairs or whatever.

Outdoor diners I’m okay with but outdoor libraries, as beautiful as they are, make me cry at the thought of the books getting ruined in the rain. I...might have attachment issues to books.

It doesn't really bother me, but I also haven't really used many items that I see as indoor items outdoors. I may as I continue decorating my island, but I never know what to do with an area until I start decorating it.

I think the outdoor libraries look really cool, but I've thought about the rain part of it too.

As cool as they look, I've not implemented an outdoor café or library. I do think they look a bit strange tbh

However I have tried something similar that might not disgust you as much? I'm making the south beach into a British seaside resort based on the one I live in, and part of that is an outdoor chippie. I've used a stall and some fences as well as some outdoor appliances like a gas range, and I think it works well for outside, maybe because chippies sometimes put seating outside anyways.

I love the areas outside. I created a nice little innercity around the stores and I can't wait to create more public stuff like a playground and an actual neighborhood. It's fun to have this option and it works much better than PWP, you can choose your items and what you want to do with your outside.

It's also cool that you can create stuff like a concert hall, I really think that Animal Crossing is going to commit to the sandbox element.

AMEN.

This is part of why I just am not in love with so many other people's islands, and part of the reason my island is so bare outside of the residential area. A lot of what people decorate with don't belong outside, and it irks me. Like when it rains, all of that stuff should be ruined. I know it's a video game, but this logic is...pretty obvious. Even in The Sims 4, if it rains and you have electronics outside they will be fried. Indoors furniture belongs indoors!

This is another reason why it breaks me that for a game where we can put furniture freely outdoors for the first time, we don't have a whole lot of appropriate outdoor furniture. Even appropriate outdoor furniture from past mainline Animal Crossings is completely missing, and don't even get me started on Pocket Camp. Pocket Camp has a wide variety of beautiful furniture that works great outdoors... But it's all missing from NH. =/

It doesn't bother me, personally. I suspend my disbelief when playing or watching anything meant for entertainment purposes, otherwise I wouldn't really be able to enjoy anything. If I were to let indoor furniture being outside bother me, then the mere fact that my animals talk and walk on two legs would also be offputting, but of course, it's not.

Having said that... I'm not opposed to more outdoor furniture. More options is always good imo.

The only indoor furniture I have put outside so far are some tables and just small things in the gardens of my villagers. I personally don't even feel like decorating outside much at all. If I don't think it makes much sense to be outside, I will likely not use it

I agree, sounds silly but I always think WHAT IF IT RAINS??
Lots of these setups are very cool and creative, but they make me strangely uncomfortable lol.
