I’m tired of being told I’m playing this game wrong xD

I'm also in the camp of "there's no one correct way to play this game". I remember several months ago there were several discussions that went so far as to call time-traveling cheating. (That being said, there are ways, in my opinion, to "cheat", such as hacking millions of bells into your ABD.) My town is a flower-infested mess as a result of having time-traveled back and forth multiple times, sometimes up to five months day-by-day for various reasons (e.g. ordering items from my catalog for other people - the five item rule is complete garbage if you ask me), but I don't think that how I play is necessarily the absolute "correct" way to play, nor do I think that how other people play is necessarily "correct".

People should play however they want to play. I don't think it gets much simpler than that.

Tell them that you actually did decorate your town, you just made a perfect replica of your Wild World one. jk

I've never been personally told that before but I do feel like I need to explain my choices in the game sometimes. I like Animal Crossing because of the life-sim aspects. I enjoy decorating my house enough but I'm not that into customization as a whole. I prefer the look of a more natural town and towns that are easy to play the more traditional aspects of AC in (ie catch bugs on trees).

I need to remember to take my time too. We only get one island so if I rush to fully decorate it now I won't have much to do later on. Also I'm waiting for a furniture update, there's not enough pieces that I like at the moment. 😅

The amazing thing about animal crossing is there is no wrong way to play. Just have fun with it. If your friends don’t like it that’s their problem but yours. If you want to decorate go for it. If not that’s fine too. I have decorated some of my island but didn’t go overboard. My villagers have yards with way to many flowers and fences. There are a couple of decorated spots like a zen garden, small cafe. A spot for pirate and Gulliver items and that’s about it.

Hey guys!!!

So basically, I’ve played every game in the series and I’ve been a fan of this series for many years with nobody to play it with. I was content with this, but still since [“New Horizons”] became so popular I was very excited to see my (adult) friends had picked up the game too, and very excited to play the game together for once!!!

Only to get... A whole lot of, “Why haven’t you decorated your island yet”, “stop focusing on your house and decorate your island”, “why is there nothing on your island”

I’m tired of being told how to play? I’m playing this game in the same manner I’ve played all others....

I decided to not quote the entirety of your opening post for a very good reason.

You recognize that, while others may be well-intentioned in trying to encourage you to focus in one way or another, you are the one who is playing your copy of the game “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

How others approach playing can be helpful. But, it is not of use if the advice does not help you. And no one is supposed to be working on a deadline—not even if it is self-imposed.

“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” was released five months ago, on the date March 20, 2020. It is not even six months old. Updates are being implemented via the Internet. And, so, Nintendo wants this game to last for several years before it has to create, develop, manufacture, market, and sell its next big “Animal Crossing” game.

So, is there a hurry to achieve?

What is being achieved?

A model-looking house (or two or three or more)?

A picture-perfect island?

If one falls for too much of this, how one should handle playing, it can bring an end to one’s fun with “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

I think it is wise to keep in mind that, ultimately, “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” is yours. (You play however you will.)

There is a right way to play the game. If you have Raymond, Marshal, Audie, Judy, Sherb, Marina, Fauna, Bob, Merengue, and Zucker on your island, you'll unlock a special ending during a K.K. concert for 100% completion.

Sorry this is happening to you! In my eyes, it IS animal crossing, and you can really play however you want. I did the same thing with previous games, and definitely believe there is an added pressure this time around to decorate your island. But it makes since to do what you want! It's your island, hopefully they can understand that :)

Yes sometimes but at the end of the day it’s my island, rn I have flatten my island so I can have a clean canvas later. But I haven’t start on decorating cause I wanted to make at least two blue roses before I do anything. I haven’t decorated my house either, some times I change the exterior design every now and then but that’s it. Play how you want to play. ❤

I think it’s better to focus on what makes you happy.
For me , my whole town and houses are a mess right now. I would rather focus on the structure and paths of the town. Once I have those set up, I will start decorating. This is how I kind of worked in new leaf.

I am also enjoying Harvey’s studio a lot.
I keep decorating my rooms there instead of the ones at my actual houses.

It's almost like a game series based on extensive customization and creativity encourages a good chunk of it's playerbase to be petty and superficial  Do what you like with your game, and anyone who has a problem with that can shove off.

This is a really sucky thing to be happening, especially when it's from your own friends.
I honestly don't care about other people's opinions of MY island... It's my island. If I want to take my time with it and have a really empty island, or rush and get 5 stars super quick, then I will. It's not a game that has a wrong or right way of playing. People just enjoy it however they want. I can't stand people who tell other people how to play their own game.

If it upsets you that my island isn't fully complete with 5 stars, then go away. 😂

Oh my word, this is actually an amazing nostalgic idea
I could terraform the map flat and create the tile pattern in front of the player house
put ables and nooks together with the same tile

I have two south rivers so I could make something like this:

I totally get what you mean when you said you were playing Population Growing and WW alongside New Horizons, I've been craving those same things!

I think if you just carry on as you have been, you'll eventually find others who feel the same way or, at the very least, won't give you crap about how you play YOUR game.

there’s no such thing as playing the game wrong. i’ve been only focusing on my house, too, and there’s nothing wrong with that. you paid money for the console and the game, you’re allowed to focus on whatever aspects of it that you like; there’ll be plenty of time to decorate your island later, whenever you feel like it, not when your friends decide that it’s time ;;

Hey guys!!! Little mini complain here!

New Horizon is the first game where it's officially become a town/island builder. NL kind of had it as a gimmick, but it wasn't the main focus. It was just something else they tacked on but didn't detract from the mainline of the game.

So no you're not doing it wrong. Your friends are new to the series, so they don't know what the main series was like before NH. I haven't even bothered with decorating my island all that much either. I am not going to force myself to decorate it a certain way until I wait for an update that brings back or adds stuff that I would actually like to decorate on my island. And I don't care what Isabelle says about my star rating.

'Play the way you want. Except play it our way and have Isabelle judge you for it.'

This is ridiculous. Animal Crossing is literally a game series that you can do whatever you want. The customization is completely optional, and if you want to do it, then do it at your own pace. Whether that's fast or slow, it's up to you.

The most important thing is that you're having fun. Nothing else matters.
