Hi everyone
Hope everyone is having a great day! I’m new here and as excited as I am ..I am having anxiety about it lol. Im the total definition of an introverted personality so please be patient with me. I have no idea how to use these forums so I hope I’m doing okay so far.
I have some questions
1.For whatever reason, I’m terrified of doing trading but I’ve realized that this is the only way I could create the island of my dreams! There’s so many cute items in colors and styles that I’m after that I cannot obtain without trading for such as all the colored floor lights and many of the pink colored items and “cute” theme items the list goes on and on. Is the the right place for this ?
2. I also have all the Sanrio posters .. is this a type of item that I can drop and have someone pick up and then drop back down again so they can at least catalogue it for themselves Without me having to buy lots of the posters to give to people?
I have more questions but I’m already overwhelming myself.
Thank you in advance for any and all advice and help,it’s very appreciated ! I have a lot to learn I’m sure.

Welcome to TBT! This community is very kind so I hope you like it here! If you're worried about trading, you can start off small and work at it bit by bit, until you gain confidence in it :) You'd want to look at the Nooks Cranny section of the forum for any items you're looking for!

Yes, for the Sanrio posters (or any poster in general), you can do a catalog trade just by having someone else pick it up and drop it :)

Hi and welcome! it's great to have you here :)
And don't worry too much - the anxiety will pass as you interact more/get more trades under your belt. A lot of us were in the same boat when we first started lol it gets easier, and can definitely be a lot of fun too ~

1. The Nooks Cranny board is great for looking for trades/posting your own - you'll be able to find plenty things to trade and catalog as it's quite active + there are a lot of really nice, patient people on these boards. So trades are usually a breeze

2. Your Sanrio posters will probably be quite a good item to offer in trades for items you are looking for, and yes - you can do touch trades with them !

have fun!

Oh wow thank you both for your advice and kind greetings! what a great introduction :)

If I wanted to reply to someone’s post do I have to hit the reply button or should I put that persons username and then my response and they’ll know I’m replying to them specifically? Forgive me I really have no idea what I’m doing haha

I don't have much to add, but I thought I'd pop in and say hello. Hello! Welcome to TBT. :)

Don't be shy, only a few of us a bite. ^_^

Haha Thank you so much :)

What’s easier to do? Compose a list of the items I’m looking for and post and take it from there? How is trading usually done here? I’m really not much of a talker but I also don’t want to feel like I’m being rude to ask for quick trades like hi and thank you and then they leave or I leave After receiving the items or trading lol.

It depends how people have set up their alerts. By default, both mentioning someone (you use @[username], for example @FraudulentDimetrodon) and quoting/replying will notify them. Some people also use the Like system to notify (usually they'll say in their signature or their forum thread something like, "Please like my post to notify me," or something). I usually just quote people like this unless someone wants otherwise because it's easier to stay organized, especially in trades.

You can either make a list and make your own thread or you can just search in the Nook's Cranny section of the forums to see if someone has what you're looking for.

I wouldn't worry about asking for quick trades! I think that's what most people want anyway. Folks who want to hang out and tour towns are probably in The Airport section of the forums.

If trades make you feel anxious, maybe giving you a rundown of how trades work will help? Generally, you figure out in the forum thread all the details of the trade and which town you want to trade in. The host will drop their items on the ground beforehand, then the host will PM the Dodo Code, and the visitor will head over. I like to hash everything else out in PMs beforehand. For example usually if I host, I tell folks they can shop if they'd like, or what villager is crafting, etc. I'll also communicate just to keep things updated. Things like, "I'm running a little late, you're up next," or, "I'm heading over right away," etc. Then when the visitor lands, everyone just says, "Hi!" and/or does the Greeting emote. The visitor will drop their items a few steps away, and then both parties pick up everything at the same time. Then everyone just says, "Thanks! Bye!" and the visitor will leave.

Thank you so much! You’re really helpful and you explain things very simply which is great. I am intimidated by the nooks cranny thread so maybe I’ll be posting my own thread of what items I’m looking for for my first attempt. If someone has an item I’m after and they’re looking to trade ..do they just ask if I have an item they’re looking for too? Or ask for bells?can trading be simple or complicated haha Or do some people not mind touch trading I think it’s called which if I’m not mistaken is when someone drops the item the other picks it up to catalogue it and then drops it right back down again and doesn’t keep the item.
Sorry to bother you with my millions of questions

I’m also happy to hear most people do hi and bye quick trades LOL

Haha Thank you so much :)

you could create a wishlist on website like Villager DB - it's useful for keeping track of items, adding/removing them. and you can link them in posts you make for people to look over! I personally like wishlists like this because of the pictures - helps for quickly scrolling through and seeing if you have something the person is looking for :)

And trades are usually quick anyway - a lot of "ty" "np" and then on to the next trade ! lol

Don't be afraid of the multiplayer aspect, this forum especially protects you pretty easily and most people here are pretty friendly too! :)

If someone has an item I’m after and they’re looking to trade ..do they just ask if I have an item they’re looking for too? Or ask for bells?

People will usually clarify what they're looking for, and if not don't be shy to drop an offer. Worst thing they can do is say no. ;)

can trading be simple or complicated

Trading is super easy, you just have to meet up on one island and exchange the things before the visitor leaves. Usually the host lays down the items so the visitor can already see them while arriving. If the visitor considers scamming, the host could just f.e. close the game to kick them.

Or do some people not mind touch trading

Cataloguing is super common here, right now there are even people who host catalogue parties so that multiple people can just pick up and drop everything that's lying on someone else's island. But there are also many trades for just a single item to be catalogued by either person.

Oh,that makes a lot of sense!pictures of items can be better. I don’t know if any of you ever played Neopets but trading and wishlists sounds so similar to back when I used to play Neo and trade Neo cash items haha

how do people have the storage to hold all these items to even have a huge list of items that they have in the first place or do they not actually have the items on hand and they have to order from their catalogue for people and then wait the day?

I felt exactly the same as you! I was so worried about trading etc but for the most part it’s been pleasant, people are generally pretty speedy in and out. These forums are so helpful, people are very kind here 😊

also I’ve noticed that if you do happen to post something in the wrong thread someone will point you in the right direction!

Usually people post what they are looking for + what they are offering in exchange. Other times people offer items and simply leave it open to offers - in those cases you can maybe google around to see what the item they are offering can usually go for elsewhere, just to help give you an idea of what to offer yourself. But tbh you can just skip that step most times and simply make an offer you feel comfortable with and seems fair ! The worst the person can do is say no, and then you can just adjust from there :)

and you can trade using all kinds of things, I usually like to trade items for items for example - but occasionally will offer bells, or Nook Miles Tickets - it's really just about what you have, and what you are willing to put up for trade.

and yep! cataloging/touch trading is when you drop an item for a person to pick up and drop again. That way they can then go order the item for themselves !

Really, it just depends what you want/what the other person wants! If you're making a post, you can say something like, "I'm looking for this. I want Bells in return," or, "I can trade this item," or whatever! Or if you're not sure/not picky, you can offer something like, "I can pay [x] amount Bells, but if you're looking for something else, let me know!" or something like that. If you prefer to touch trade, say that, or if you're not picky, you can say that too. Some people like trading items, some people like touch trading. It's best to just communicate everything!

You're not being a bother at all! So no need to apologize. : D And yeah, if you want me to be notified, you can just hit the Quote or Reply button on my post. That will also help when you do trades.

Lots of people time travel to order from their catalog, but you don't have to if you don't want to (usually, I see people saying something like, "I don't want to TT, so you'll have to wait for your order," or whatever. Again, just simple communication is key). Some people just hoard items in their storage or all over their island because that's what they prefer.

Thanks for taking the time to break things down for me. Your advice is wonderful. You all are really making this learning process very simple I’m really starting to look forward to trading now !

Great! Thank you so much. Also is there a value system when it comes to item for item trades ? Or even items in exchange for bells?

Welcome to the bell tree forums!! They will only make Animal Crossing more fun :) I am super introverted and shy/asocial/etc myself, but this website is so worth it. If you ever want to visit a southern hemisphere island (and explore in complete silence if you like) hit me up!

Got it! So I personally don’t like the TT so in my case either waiting to order from the catalogue or touch trading would probably work better for my preferred style of trading ? Or even just having a part of my island to store items untill I have everything I’m looking for at least

A fellow introvert! Haha thank you that’s so kind of you. :)

Yep! You can do any or all of those things. As long as everyone is upfront with their expectations and what they can do, you can do trades however you like. There's plenty of people who are fine with touch trading, or waiting until the next day, etc.

Thank you ! I’m starting to not feel so weird now. My first experience on this site has truly been so great everyone is really so kind so far :) lol I’m grateful
