What are your thoughts on gifting your villagers items and clothing? I understand that if they were to move out, they’d be worth more if they were original. But if you have a villager you plan on keeping forever, would you guys gift them stuff?

I gave Flora a piece of clothing today and she looks so cute! I love Flora to bits and I’m never kicking her out, so I personally thought it was perfectly appropriate to gift her something. However, if I were to get a villager I wasn’t planning on keeping, I wouldn’t gift them so they could keep their originality C:

What are your thoughts? Do you gift or not?

i personally don’t gift them clothing in fear of getting something that looks ugly on them but i’m not against giving them furniture or bugs/fish if they specifically ask for it. i’ve never been too obsessed with originality even if i plan on selling the villager at some point ;w;

I like to give stuff to villagers and I enjoy it sometimes as long as it fits well on them.

I do gift them stuff, because it makes me feel like they’re more my villager. It just is like they are more.. alive? I don’t think that is the right word, but it makes them feel more like people, and that’s the point if them being there, they’re like your neighbors
Also I can’t help but give Sherb another sweater 🥺

I gift them whatever I want. Aesthetics don't bother me that much. I prefer treating my neigbours like neighbours and shower them with gifts. Not that I do that with my actual neighbours, but yeah. AC is a more idyllic place.

I give them clothes I think will look good on them, usually I test it out at Harv’s island first to see if it looks good though of course haha.

Sure villagers are worth less if they’re unoriginal, but like others have said I Iike seeing them wearing different clothes besides their default clothing.

I looooooove giving my villagers clothes! It's fun to play dress-up with them, and it makes going into the Able Sisters to pick something out that much more fun.

It makes me wonder how people who keep their villagers "original" go about getting the framed pictures from them... To me, just giving them the same wall item or workbench every day feels like too much of a chore, and makes the game a little lifeless.

I gift them things I think look good on them - I use Harvey's island to try it out first.

Although I gave Katt a gift in my first week of playing before I figured out how it all worked, and it still haunts me to this day...why is she still wearing the gold full body tights!?

:ROFLMAO:

Generally, I stick to clothing, but I have been giving Flora a few items I think would be cute in her house (she was the only one I kept in the starter home, since I'm not crazy about her default).

I don't plan to move any of my villagers out, but I also don't believe in selling villagers, so that's a moot point, for me.

I just wish they couldn't use clothes to replace furniture.

I’ve gifted clothing before and haven’t seen this happen thankfully. If I see an outfit I think they’d like, I gift it.

@Barney you’ve given me another reason to kick myself for not using the photo studio. Using it as a dressing room is a great idea

I accidentally gave Bunnie a net and she displayed it proudly in her home. The net looks so goofy as a furniture item.

So far I have 4 permanent villagers and I like to give them clothes. For other villagers, I do often get the urge to give them clothes especially on their birthdays, but I try my best to avoid it because of people that may adopt them.

Never understood the desire to have them be 'original'. The fact they retain a little something of where they came from is kind of the point in trading villagers in my eyes!

I gave Raddle a cute coat in one of his preferred colours for his birthday and he wears it everywhere.

I have something like a tradition on my island. The day I unlock the ability to give gifts, I'm making a wreath for them to put on the door. And the next day gift is a piece of clothing. I mostly give them something that looks good on them and/or something from their "preffered" clothing options. All my villagers have at least two different clothes, plus custom designs I display at Ables. I love seeing them walking around, wearing clothes desingned by me, I think it's cute. It's a shame that sometimes they put clothing as a furniture item instead adding it to their rotation tho </3

I gift them a lot mainly as I want pictures, I usually just give items and clothing I don't need, problem is I forget what I've wrapped so some of my villagers wear some pretty awful clothes

I gift my villagers clothing pretty frequently, I think it's cute to see them walking around in something we picked for them. I also have a few designs up in the Able's shop that my villagers like to wear. I never really kept my villagers original. If I give a villager something and I'm not planning on keeping that villager forever, I just give away the villager instead of trying to sell them when they want to move out.

Also, sometimes to see what will look cute on them, I go to Harv's island and switch up their clothing!

I gift them clothes regardless of whether they'll stay or leave. Right now, I'm not planning on letting anyone else move out, so sometimes I go to Harvey's island and start putting clothes on them and if I like some outfits, I'll give it to them over the next few days. I don't give them ugly stuff on purpose, though, even if I don't like them.

I prefer having villagers with customized homes. It makes them feel more alive. I also like adopting villagers because (in New Leaf) they would talk about their past home and it made it feel more realistic. I don't know if they still do that in New Horizons or not.
