we play the opposite gender all the time in RPGs where we cant choose (like bayonetta for guys, COD for women)
and oftentimes people will choose the opposite gender in MMOs, though i personally only have a handful of male toons while the rest are female.
its nothing to be judged for because even if you have a choice, youre still doing something relatively normal, especially if youre roleplaying a character

My main town I play as a male, but normally when cycling / in my new town I have a female mayor just for a bit of variation with what the villagers say.

I'm a boy and my main town mayor is a boy. However, my second town mayor is a girl. I had many reasons to choose a girl. First, I was curious about the different responses you might get from villagers. Second, the hint for wanting to play a girl is hinted in the name chosen: Ariadne, both the 'architect' in Christopher Nolan's Inception and the 'goddess' in Greek myth the name is based on, are favorite characters of mine.

Out of my 6 total playable Animal Crossing characters, currently three are male and 3 are female.
It's fun being able to play with both character aesthetics, although I do think the girls have way more choices in interesting clothing, accessories, hairstyles, and QR Codes than the guys do.

My mayor is a guy, but I have a girl character as a side/mule. I think it's fun to see how the villagers interact differently with separate genders.

Why would it be weird? I do the same, in this game and others, just because... I feel like it. (But flip the genders because I'm female.) Regardless of what other people might say there's nothing wrong with it. It's just a game, after all.

i lean more towards the guy side of things in general for whatever reason, mayhaps being born into a family of boys but i digress. sometimes i switch genders in the game-verse. it's whatever. so long as you're honest about it with real people.
