if we can have 8 houses for other players...

I knowww. I feel like Nintendo was using the 8 player characters as an excuse; I have plans for three additional player characters just because my island feels so empty and I could easily fit another 2-4 villagers on top of THAT.

The 8 players thing is unneeded as is. The island is way too small for 8 players and more than 10 villagers.. If you disagree it's probably because you crammed all 8 player houses together with little to no design or yard.

I mean I put all of my animal villagers against the beach outskirt in a straight line. But I was going for a private beach resort (so I could have the rest of the island for whatever I wanted to do) and it actually works. But I still only see myself adding two or three more player villagers for design purposes.

I kinda agree with your point? Don't think I've been to an island with more than 4 players lol.

But then again, we should just be able to trade player spots for villager spots IMO. May still get crowded somehow but hey, gotta let people play the way they want to.

It would be nice if we had the option to have more villagers if we are the only people on our island.

wow I can't believe you can have up to 8 players :0
right now I have 1 player and 10 villagers, and im struggling with where to put my last 2 villager houses. I feel like I dont have enough room, I cant imagine what it would be like if I had to incorporate 8 player houses into the mix, I think at most I could only afford 1 extra player!

Love the idea of making a beach resort!

Like most people said, I definitely wouldn't have space for 8 players unless I put their houses on the beach. I feel like 5 would have been a reasonable cap

They'd need to give is the ability to demolish villager plots

I'm pretty sure that the only reason that cap is so high is due to the aforementioned "one island per Switch console" concept. They didn't want to discount the possibility that a particularly large family would all want to play, but only had one Switch...

...I'm not saying it was a practical or well-advised decision, but I think that was the rationale.

I'm not sure, but maybe it's not just about having room for more than 10 villagers, but rather the game might slow down if they had more villagers? Each villager has dialog, pathfinding, inventory, friendship level, etc that the game has to manage.

I definitely agree, I won't ever make a second character unless I need the storage space so I think allowing us to have 5 more villagers would be good. More than 15 might be a little too much tho

I'd personally LOVE to have the ability to house more villagers because to me villagers are such an integral part of AC.
And to make everyone satisfied, I think it should be left optional - just the same way it is with the additional players you can have on your island.
That way all those people who say that the island is "way too small to house more villagers" would be happy too.;)

I don't know where I'd put more villagers. I feel like the island size is small, but some how people make it look big and make it seem like there is plenty of room for their villagers to live. I still only have 8 villagers.
