If I use curse on a roaming pokemon will it still be in affect next battle?

My pokemon would have killed latias so I used curse until it had low health and I ran away. I'm pretty sure it won't be in affect next time I see it so it won't die but my friend is being jerk and telling me it will be in affect and it will kill latias next turn. So, who's right?

Im pretty sure it won't. Its like confusion. Confusion only lasts for that battle, but after the battle, its gone.

Yes it is, I ran away so curse wouldn't kill it.
