i wish we could change our villager’s home exteriors. so, so badly.

I would love to be able to change up the exterior of my villager houses.

One thing that sometimes stops me from inviting a villager, is the way the exterior of their house looks. So too be able to change that would make me so happy.

I’m honestly more concerned about the interiors since it bothers me how some interiors look like they dropped random items in the house with no thought put into it otherwise, while others like sheldon’s house look like some effort was put into it. The idea does appeal to me though, be able to change exteriors since I may want to eventually change out villagers but don’t want to pick them based on exterior. I never cared about it at all, but I admit some houses would look odd in my current setup with the house exteriors that I have.

I think they did a pretty good job making ALL the houses appealing in NH, so I actually enjoy the variety. However, I’d love some interior customization! Mostly so my poor starter Antonio can stop living in the barren white box the developers inexplicably condemned him to for eternity.

Get rid of ugly items. Be able to gift villagers without fear of them displaying it and ruining their house forever. It would be amazing.

Yeah, I remember gifting Wolfgang a red rose as he was my forced campsite villager and I loved him. I actually wanted him to display it, but he decided that the middle of his floor was a better place than on top of his lovely rustic wooden table.
What made it worse was it ended up glitching and he displayed two, at least the second one wasn’t in the middle of the floor.

I'm hoping for some kind of HHD expansion/DLC at some point that adds exterior/interior customization as well as more furniture. There doesn't seem to be much evidence for that yet though so it's more of a hope rather than an expectation at this point in time.

I wish so too I’m in the middle of moving all the islander houses to make a home area and some of the houses are I wish we could change the look and colour it would make things more pleasing to the eye.

I'd like to be able to remove gifted items from villager homes and wardrobes so that I could participate in the villager gift deliveries and still keep my villagers original. But I personally wouldn't want to change their house beyond how they came either internally or externally.

Being able to change the exterior of their houses would be great, it’d help to theme islands better but I don’t mind not being able to. Something I really wish I could do is make my villager Rod’s house his actually house. He was my first villager, so he’s stuck with the bland starter house interior and I can’t change it to what his actual house would be if he wasn‘t a starter villager. I just can’t bring myself to kick him off and add him back as an amiibo, I feel like (even though this is kinda stupid) that we wouldn’t have our same friendship or memories we’ve had.

what you said about rod isn’t stupid, i feel the same way about certain villager’s too! it feels like a different villager when you bring them back after kicking them out, even though they look the same. but at least you know you have it as an option if you ever decide to get his real house

I know how you feel. I've actually gotten rid of some villagers I otherwise really liked just because their house exterior didn't fit with my island's aesthetic. But that's OK, it gave me the chance to try to meet other villagers.

Hey, if you're worried about this! I wanted to let you know, if you have a friend or someone who has Amiibos as well, or even just another Switch you could use/borrow ...
Kick him out with anyone you have, let your friend ( or use other Switch ) to pick him up. Have your friend ( or you ) use any random Amiibo to force him to move out again, and then go and pick him up on your own island!

He will remember you, and say something along the lines of how he's missed being on your island and would be happy to come back! ( My friend had Dom as a starter, hated his starter house, and did this with me. :> She was fine with losing her friendship level with him as long as it meant he'd have his own home, but was THRILLED when he told her he remembered and missed her ! )

I've been thinking about this...

Assuming a future update brings over the missing furniture and items, are they going to update the villager houses with it? Or will they give us a small taste of Happy Home Designer and let us arrange the interior of our villagers.

Lottie had her melody parameter (the town jingle that plays when you talk to characters) updated in older updates. Sanrio characters had their melody parameters updated before they were released.

There’s a glitch with an Amiibo where you can give a villager someone else’s exterior. The process is very tedious. My Biskit has Kyle’s house exterior. I’m not bothered by a villager’s exterior though, so I don’t mind not being able to change it. I gave them custom backyards.

A lot of the exteriors match the colors of the villagers themselves, and while it's cute sometimes it looks pretty bad other times.
However, I'd like to be able to customize interiors more. They could make it so the base furniture is required to remain in their home, but you can remove junk (unwanted clothing and furniture given by other villagers) and add more items to their home. Some of the interiors are really bland and lack small details (like tables and other surfaces with absolutely nothing on them) and it buuuugs me.

I would LOVE this because i'm insane and legit was trying to MATCH ROOFTOPS to some buildings like nooks and the able sisters and the museums. T_T Also because some of them live in buildings that don't suit them as well as I think I could design!
