In a lot of ways I’m more nice and forgiving than most, but if somebody challenged me like that—you bet I’d be the most vicious nice person they ran into. Don’t let it affect your opinion of your work; either they said it just to be nasty, or they have bad taste (and are nasty on top of it!)

It’s honestly just such a bizarre and pathetic thing to say. Our Islands are better off with people like that far away.

This is an absurd. I'm sure your island is amazing because it's your way, your unique island, I don't think there is such a thing as an ugly island. I remember once I was going on an island for celeste and someone was saying some bad things about the island. They seemed to be a host's friend and the host played along but I immediatly thought that if someone said that to my island, even joking, I would be devasted. I'm so sorry this happened to you!

I'll be honest, I tend not to comment on other people's islands. Reason being, unless I actually went there and looked at every corner of the island, I wouldn't be in a position to offer some valid criticism, either good or bad. This is also why I always feel like I'm getting some "empty" and "fake" compliments on my island whenever I host and people just go straight to a villagers house, get the diy and say that my island is "lovely", "beautiful" or something like that without even looking at half of it.

Now, there's something to be said: you can probably bet that this person was out to troll you and other players by doing exactly the same thing they did to you. A lot of people without the even the smallest notion of design think they know something and go around criticizing other people's islands based on what they saw on YouTube (where, honestly, most islands are more "look how many flashy items o could place here" than anything else).

Don't take it to your heart, just keep playing. In the end, your island is only YOURS, and even if no one likes the way it looks, if you're satisfied with it, nothing else matters.

I always mean it. Yeah, i haven't seen all of your island but it's not about criticism gor me. It's about telling people I genuinely like what I saw so far (and if their entrance area is amazing I assume the rest of the island is great as well.)
