I think someone gifted me a duped Katana

Soooo...
Today I opened my letter box and found out that one of my penpal gifted me a Katana.
After all the things that happened yesterday/today (I saw lots of duped Katans),
I feel kinda MEH in keeping it. Also I am actually scared that it could cause any damage?
Like glitches and stuff. Should I throw it away? Or is it safe to keep one?
Idk I feel bad in throwing away a present but mEH

I've not seen any weirdness or glitches come about with duped items from the new exploit. The only issue I know of is that if you yourself perform the duplication there may end up being void spots in your house that take some tricks to resolve. Getting a katana from another player shouldn't have any problem.

yea, sadly. ppl duped shark models, katanas, tv. i think it affected 2x1 items, cant be sure about lucky cats tho

It only affects 2x1 items, so as the previous commenter says it'll only apply to things like shark models, oarfish models, lcd 50" tv, etc. If you saw a thousand lucky cats, that player is either extremely wealthy (I have seen legitimate players with net worth totalling 40k NMT, it's totally possible) or are savefile hacking.

Having a duped item doesn't usually affect your game or, at least, hasn't previously in NL. Obviously, if you were someone duping the item, some process of duping could affect your game...but just receiving the product, no.

This forum has rules against trades of duped items and I believe discussing methods of duping to partake in it. So, you don't need to throw out an item but you would be against terms if you tried to trade it/sell it on the forums.

It's ultimately kind of inevitable. People will always look for ways to do it and some of those items will come in circulation regardless. The idea is just to try to actively not take part because it contributes to issues with the trading economy amongst the community.

This would have been fine (relative term) the first week of the game, but don't risk losing 6 weeks of progress people.
