The fact that I'd have to purchase another switch to have another copy of the game is a deal-breaker. At least in NL you could get multiple cartridges or a cartridge and a digital copy, all on one device.

Having a second Switch/copy of the game is A LOT of money to fork out for not much benefit imo. I could barely justify spending what was about $350 AUD for my Switch Lite and copy of ACNH (I do play other games on it now, but I did buy it originally just for ACNH).

But hey, if you can afford it, go ahead I guess!

Since you already have it I believe it would be best to keep it. If anything happens to your current switch you'll have a second one, as well as when you do finish your current island and end up getting inspired for the second one!!! I wouldn't recommend it if you hadn't already done it, but I actually did the same thing... XD

The thing is that I think you really might regret selling it in the future
I'd say enjoy it ow

I have a second island by unfortunate circumstance rather than by design. To be fair I’ve spent next to no time it and used it to cycle through and meet lots of characters who I’d be unlikely to meet on my main island. Also played around with time travel on this as I would never do this on my main island. I haven’t picked it up for several weeks now.

We started out with my two daughters Switch, then when I found out you could only have 1 island per Switch, Mommy had to get her very own! lol

I am working towards an all cat island: Catagonia 😻

But, I really wish I could have a second island for Dreamies too. Not enough to get a 3rd Switch (2nd for me) though. 😑

I would love to have a second island, but I can’t afford to buy another switch just for animal crossing. I think if I had another island I would try terraforming it instead of leaving it natural like my current island.

If you have the chance to own a switch you don't have to share with anyone else, I would never recommend buying another switch for a second island.

Firstly, because, based on my experience, there's enough space on just one island to express yourself through any idea you come up with to decorate your island.
Secondly, because I don't think it's worth it to spend so much money just to get another island when New Horizons offers so many customization possibilities. Instead of buying another switch, you could simply flatten your island and start anew on your preexisting island.

If you have to share your switch, then buying a second one could actually be worth the money, as you gain the freedom to do whatever pleases you in your game, which I think is fundamental in a game like Animal Crossing.

That’s exactly the reason why I felt confident in getting my lite. There’s also several non-AC factors that led me to get one but having total control over an island was a driving factor. Even still I thought over it for months before I took the plunge.

I agree fully with you: if you own your first island completely you don’t need a second switch.

Aaaa, getting a second island imo sounds so horribly expensive >.<

I guess I'm lucky because I don't share my switch with anyone, but even without taking money into account, I'd struggle to run two islands at once!

sorry if this is a naive question, but - wouldn't making a second profile give you the same ability to have a second island without forking out the price a new switch / game? or is there a limitation with what you can do on a secondary profile? i've been thinking about making a second profile just to do some crazier ideas that wont fit into my main island, but i don't think i'd ever feel justified in paying for another switch and game. i could only afford the lite to begin with, and that was a birthday present to myself. v;

All profiles on the switch share the same island, just have their own character and house. It is not possible to have multiple islands on one Switch without hacking.

well, that definitely puts a damper in that idea :c thanks for clearing that up for me!

I definitely agree with a lot of the comments here. I 100% regret spending so much money just for a second island. I would love to sell my Switch to someone else, but part of me thinks it's a good idea to have a spare lying around just in case something happens to my main Switch.

I don't know, guys. I may end up selling it anyway but even then, my dumb butt put a STICKER on the back of it. Oh my god, what was I thinking?

I may very well be stuck with this impulse purchase, but at the same time, I can't think about it or look at it without screaming. If I can even get half the money back on it, that would be great. Maybe someone will like the Gulliver sticker I put on it.

OOF.

If it helps I've put stickers on my consoles and I was able to remove all gunky trace of them with my thumbnail and lot of eraser action 😆

Do NOT use anything scratchy to scrub it off, it'll leave marks. (R.I.P. my 3DS XL)

I was very very very close to doing the same thing and buying myself another switch. I seemed like a new and shiny tempting idea until I sat on it for a while. I have so many disjointed ideas for my current island I couldn't even imagine trying to plan out a second right now. I did the thing that was a little easier on my pocket - and I reset my island so I could be free to do what I want on a new island.. Which is also not the best solution, but it's worked out for me.

well, having a spare is always good - you never know when something unexpected is going to happen to your main one (hopefully nothing ever does.) but i highly doubt if you advertised it somewhere that someone would be too bothered by gulliver's face on the back of it. maybe keep it around for now, and think on it a bit more. who knows, you might need the extra money for something down the road, and the second switch could be a ladder out of that situation.

honestly would make it so much easier to be able to have a second island on the same switch, but that would be a lot of data. we can dream, though.

I think people want a switch wouldn’t mind a sticker. It was very hard to find one a month ago, but I am not sure now. We got cases for our 2 switches, and never look at the back. If you decided to sell it with cheaper price, I think someone would buy it, especially gifting season is coming.

Jeez, there's no way I could justify getting another Switch just for freaking Animal Crossing. It was hard enough finding a Switch for my little sibling that wasn't being resold by scalpers for a ridiculous price. I'm just not a fan of the senseless materialism. Unless you're really, REALLY sure you're going to be loving every minute on that second island I can't see how it's worth HUNDREDS of bucks just for another freaking AC island...
umm yikes, people can spend their money however they want lol no need to be feisty

Anyway, I sold my first switch when I got the new AC switch and I kinda wish I had kept it to have a second island because I don't have much inspo for my main island right now, but knowing myself there is no way I would actually play two islands so I guess I don't feel too bad about selling it

I don’t have a second island, but I kind of wish I did! At the moment, my first island isn’t “completed,” so there’s still a lot I can do with it. I’m not in a hurry to fix up another island at the moment, but I do think it’ll be good for you to just keep the second Switch on standby until you feel content with your first island. C:
