i really, really hate that villagers can change catchphrases without asking.

the other day eugene pinged me to change his catchphrase. normally i prefer to keep all my villagers original, but this is eugene and i hate him so i was like haha whatever lets change it! im trying to kick him out anyways. so i made it 'pancake dan', which is short for pancake dance, because my sister had been doing her pancake dance because we were having pancakes.

anyways, it's spread through my island like herpes and now i have to complain to isabelle about everyone.

Ugh, yes. I haven't changed my villagers catchphrases yet, but the reason is, I don't want it to spread. You basically have to find a catchphrase that works with everyone, this way it doesn't sound soo bad. I've seen my mom change her villagers phrases and it spread like wildfire and we were like, "seriously?"

rosie asked me to change her’s and i was like ‘oh ok i like everyone on my island’ so i didnt rlly care if it spread or not so i chose babe lmao but then EUGENE moved in and caught on and now i just feel so uncomfortable when i talk to him

At least you have to change it for others to copy it. I didnt like how bam started using timbra’s catchphrase all of a sudden in new leaf

I didn't mind so much when Apollo and Phoebe caught on to Piper's "tweet tweet" catchphrase since they're both birds too.

But then freaking Rudy. I love him so much but he's literally a copy cat lol. He has caught on to:

Piper's "tweet tweet".
Fang's "rawr."
Coco's "honey bunny."
Beau's "deerborn".
Coco's "honey bunny" AGAIN.

He finally asked for his own catchphrase so hopefully he doesn't spread it like wildfire.

Now Phoebe is the newest copycat.

Yeah, it definitely spreads more and faster in this game, or at least it feels like it. I made one of them say “stinky” as a catchphrase because my boyfriend calls me that. It’s kind of an inside joke, basically I had a dream that he called me stinky and woke up grumpy, so now he does call me stinky as a nickname. I asked one of my villagers to use that as their catchphrase, and then they all started. It was kind of embarrassing when a visitor came to adopt Willow and Willow called her stinky, haha.

Around the same time, some of my villagers were using “oof” as a catchphrase because I thought it’d be funny. It was, but it also made them sound super rude. Picture a snooty asking “where’d you get that outfit, oof?”. Or someone saying “I’m seeing you a lot today, oof.” Between that and “stinky,” my villagers had an attitude problem for a good while.

Lol nah, I don’t want my villagers to ask to say a catchphrase from another villager because I believe they deserve to have the freedom of saying whatever they want without me dictating them. I wish catchphrases didn’t spread faster though.

The amount of conversations I've listened in on where they all pick up each others catchphrases and I'm standing there like "pls nooooo".

There was a period where everyone picked up "girlfriend" from Audie... TT_TT Now everyone has caught onto Lopez's "oh dear" and they all sound really worried.

Sherb changes his every day - stolen Lopez, Marina and Marshals. And he's a newbie so I won't be able to change it for a while.

Same i want my villagers to have their own unique catchphrases and most of the time it just doesnt make sense if other villagers use it
