I just agreed to let my favorite villager move away and I'm deeply regretting it

Tutu is my favorite villager. I just got her picture on Saturday. Tonight, she had the thought bubble over her head, and asked to leave. I sat there for 10 minutes thinking about it.

I game-ified things too much in my head. My thought was that I already have her picture, and the game so rarely moves people out... I saw this as a chance to meet someone new whose picture I don't have.

Tutu has been my favorite since the GameCube game. She's not even in boxes, and I miss her already...

How do you handle favorite villagers asking to leave? Never allow it? Get the picture and let them go? Just let them go?

I didn't expect to be so moved by a virtual bear leaving my island. Seriously considering buying her amiibo to bring her right back...

There’s a chance that the next nook island you visit can be her! I gave away sterling cause I wanted his furnished house and I went on a nook ticket island and found him the next day.

I could never let any of my current villagers leave, ESPECIALLY O'Hare. They're all special to me in one way or another

It depends. Sometimes it's really sad and difficult to let someone go but once I get their photo I have been letting them leave (other than villagers new to New Horizons with no amiibo that are more difficult to find again). Roscoe gave me his photo and I was really torn on whether to let him go when he asked me to move, I ended up letting him move away and it's sad because I kind of wish I hadn't. However, it does give you the opportunity to see if you like other villagers, nothing is permanent. You can always get Tutu again if you decide that you want to have her back in your town. I think you should let her move away and try out some other villagers for a bit. There's no 16 villager cycle in NH so you can always bring her right back with really no consequences other than losing your high friendship level with her.

You could ask someone to hold her for you so you can invite her back. This way she will still remember you too.

That's really interesting 🤔
If I don't TT though, it could be a while before I have an empty plot to take her back... And she'd have to be preparing to move at the same time? That seems hard to coordinate. Unless I'm missing something. I've never done any villager trading

I heard that you can use a second player character to convince a villager to stay even if you already told them to move using another one. Haven't tried it myself, but I think it's worth a shot if you have a second player character or are willing to create one.

That's kind of what I'm trying to tell myself. Take this as a chance to meet some new people, and maybe come back around to Tutu later... I don't ever want to get TOO stagnant with my villagers, but Tutu was probably the last one that I would've picked to leave. 😅 And yet here we are

I did actually just try this. 😅
Nothing conclusive, but no thought bubble after half an hour of running around on a second character...

I totally get the feeling. But looking back, I'm glad I let him go because it let me open up a spot for Genji who has helped me realize that not all jock villagers are totally horrible. I will probably bring Roscoe back in the future once I've gotten a few more villager photos, the last two reactions I'm missing, and tried out the villagers on my list of, "I'd like to have them at some point." Just know that it's relatively painless to bring a villager back if you regret it, whether it be through amiibo, finding them online, campsite, or a NMT.

Hey! I have Tutu's amiibo card, if you want me to and nobody offered her yet, you can PN me and I will let her move in my town and move her out for you! I totally understand that feeling so I would love to help!

This.
I have a second player character, and last time I told one of my villagers it was OK to move, they still pinged my second character when I played later that day, and I had another option to tell them to stay.
