I hate how people rag on people who don’t like the usual “dreamies”

Green Star Fragment
I saw a video today of a girl celebrating because she found Antonio while island-hopping. Most of the comments were positive, but one of them was “You passed up Lily and Zucker for Antonio?!” Said girl responded politely by telling the person that Antonio had been in her New Leaf town and he was special to her. I see so many people getting mad at others for taking home an “unpopular/ugly” villager instead of Marshal, Raymond, Mitzi, Ketchup, Filbert, etc. It’s none of their business! Not everyone likes the same villagers. I hate how those people get in the mindset that when you see one of the popular dreamies, you are REQUIRED to take them home. I have a few dreamies, but also a few “ugly” villagers, Beardo, Cyrano, etc. Why ruin someone else’s happiness at finding a villager they like by getting mad at them for not taking a more “desirable” one they saw earlier? I just don’t get it.

It's a good thing I never streamed my island hopping because I've run into and passed up Merengue, Sherb, Molly, Marina and Coco (and on top of that I got her in the campsite a few days ago and didn't take her).

I want to give these people the benefit of the doubt. They potentially are people who have never seen any of their dreamies while island hopping and then they see someone who doesn't even want them just casually run into them while island hopping and think "Not fair!".

There are plenty of "popular" villagers I don't give a flip about. Even Raymond. I mean he's okay, but I don't think he needs the extreme rabid attention he gets. I mean, if I got him as a camper I'd take him just give him to a friend who is interested in him.
My fav villagers aren't the most popular.

Antonio is super cool though! I also had him throughout my entire play-through(?) of New Leaf. He was my buddy, so I get this person entirely, and I definitely plan to have him back at some point~

More on topic, I find it funny when people do that. I also passed on villagers like Chief before simply because it wasn't what I wanted...

It's like telling someone "You bought a green shirt when they also sold red ones??" and getting mad over that. People have different preferences!

easily the worst part of watching villager hunting streams/videos. not everyone likes the same villagers (and i say this as someone who does like "popular" villagers) and everyone should get excited when people find their own dreamies.

There’s this girl who streams island hunting that’s Czech and she’s hilarious. She passed up Raymond and other popular villagers because she wanted Clay. It’s funny seeing how riled up people get.

on the opposite end, I saw another chick searching for her VIP list of popular villagers because they’d sell well. She’d just see someone, say you’re not popular or VIP, and leave. I think part of it was a bit of a joke but she was annoying.

I personally would love to move Winnie in someday.

I've never witnessed anything like that, but I think that it is very nasty to try and dampen someone's joy over finding a villager, no matter for what reason. Why should we only be happy for someone who found Raymond or Marshal? A dreamy is a dreamy and finding them feels good, no matter whether they are generally popular or not.
Then again, you never know what kind of people those are that are getting mad. Perhaps they are a young child, not knowing any better? I'd like to think that reasonable people don't act like that.
Anyway, I hope that the girl in that specific case didn't let a snide comment affect her and instead continued to be happy about finding her dreamy.

Quite frankly, no one should have to justify as to why they want specific villagers. Whether someone wants the typical "dreamies" or whether they want the "unpopular" villagers, it should be up to the person playing.

After all, the "popularity tier" with villagers is just a concept that people came up with. I think there's no use in trying to dictate how other people should play the game. Either way, all of us are here to have fun.

honestly this really bugs me
ages ago i had an online friend who i played new leaf with and everytime they visited, they would judge my villagers like axel, eugene and pietro, who are all such cute villagers imo

i didn't really get the point of why they did this, everyone has different opinions on fictional animals and i just happen to prefer weird, funny looking villagers like a rainbow clown sheep lol
i do like some popular villagers too but at the end of the day they're just game characters ☆

I think it's people doing what mothers always do: "you won't finish your meal?! There are starving kids out there who would kill to have that meatloaf!" Except replace meatloaf with Raymond lol

People are annoyed when they see others easily happen upon villagers they've been searching for for ages, especially when the people that those villagers grace with an appearance don't even "appreciate" them. It's a madness caused by rampant island-hopping!

I worry about running into Raymond or Judy for this very reason. I do like Julian a lot and he's popular, but I ADORE Elmer, and I feel like if I ever told someone I passed up on Raymond, I'd be ridiculed.

We all have a right to like whatever villager we want. This is also why tier lists suck.

If you don't like Goose then your opinion is simply wrong.

Too many people think that if you see a popular villager then you're obligated to take them in and sell/give them away to someone who wants them. It's all about the other persons gain. People tend to forget that they aren't owed anything.

At the end of the day, no one can tell you what villagers you should have on your own island. It's really sad to see people overstepping these bounds.

*Laughes in passed up Fauna, Zucker and various other populars on my search for judy*

Sad how people say that tho, I kinda want antonio, used to hate him in NL, I now like him, he's the only anteater I tolerate.

I think in general people just shouldn't give others a hard time over what villagers they like/don't like. Popular or not. Because it's also just as annoying when someone calls another player "basic" because they like some of the popular villagers, which I've been seeing happen fairly often lately (I don't mean on this forum, just to clarify).

That's just a dumb opinion. Not everyone TTs. It takes me about 2-3 weeks of real world time between move outs typically. And that's assuming you actually get the one you want to move to be the one to ask. I am not moving in popular villagers that I don't want because I could potentially be stuck with them for a long time.

There's plenty of the popular villagers floating around because there will always be some people who take them, even if they don't want them, to sell them for profit or to have a fun giveaway. But if you don't feel like dealing with that hassle, people shouldn't expect you to do that.
