Gentle reader, let me weave you a tale of woe and misfortune.

I'd like to preface this by saying I'm a big fat chicken. A huge ol' weenie. I see a tarantula and immediately head slowly in the opposite direction while screaming internally. It's to the point that I won't go on mystery island tours at night in fear of finding a tarantula island. Go ahead and laugh, but to me, the bells aren't worth the anxiety.

Now, I haven't seen a single tarantula for most of April. For some, this would be a cause for concern or complaint. For me, I'd been living in paradise, going on moonlit romps to my heart's content!

Cut to ten minutes ago. I had been running around, trying to catch a Marlin because it's the last of April's fish I need to donate to Blathers, nary a care in the world!

Then, I see it. Movement in the flowers out of the corner of my eye. I freeze, instantly filled with dread. No, it cant be! I think to myself, It has to be a trick of the light...

I inch forward, bit by bit, heart hammering a staccato in my chest. Slowly, the flowers come into frame. At first, I see nothing out of the ordinary, just my windflowers exactly as I had planted them. Oh good, I think, relieved, I had been mistaken-

The tarantula, possibly sensing that my guard had been lowered, chose that very moment to strike.

Dear reader, I'm not proud of the ungodly shriek that I unleashed. I sent my poor cat running from where he'd been asleep on my bed. My neighbors probably bolted upright in their beds, wondering at what banshee had disturbed them from their dreams.

And there is my tale. Take it as a warning. Do not grow complacent or you will awaken dazed and shaken on your front doorstep, Marlin-less.

I have seen less tarantulas this month than last month too. The funniest tarantula night though for me was a few nights ago. I had 3 tarantulas show up. Normally I only see 1 per night on my own island, if I see any at all. I saw one and failed to catch it because it was hiding in trees. No big deal. Less than 5 minutes later I was chopping trees for wood near a villager's house... and a tarantula suddenly runs out from behind the house and attacks me so fast I don't have time to do anything but get bit! That was the first time I've yelled in surprise by a tarantula in my entire life of playing AC games. lol Then a 3rd showed up less than 10 minutes after that, but I was able to catch it.

Haven't seen any tarantulas since that night. I think they're plotting against me since I managed to catch the third one.

The tarantulas are getting crafty. Be careful as they may choose to avenge their fallen brother.

I noticed myself that I haven’t been seeing many tarantulas lately. Usually I could find two a day on my island and then recently there were days when I didn’t find any at all. Then last night while I playing I leave my house and as soon as the screen cuts to outside there they are, several feet away from me and it startled me because I had forgotten about them due to not seeing one for days lol.

Now that you mention it, I haven't really seem many either. Granted, I haven't really actively been searching them out while playing late at night.

I did find one on top of Gladys' house a few days ago, though. It fell off the roof and despawned. :(

So I have scorpions, let me give you the best tip to farm them and potentially eat some grass.

Rain + mystery island tour = scorpion hula party

After you destroy everything on the island, the pinchy butt stingers will appear. Sometimes three at a time, sometimes they get stuck in the cliffs, some take a dive in the ocean. It is fun and horrifying.

As I've said before, just think of them as kittens with eight legs.
