☆ I GOT THE MAHI-MAHI ☆

i made a long, 5x wide pond leading up to my museum entrance, doing the X shape and put models and small fossils on them. works for most except the queen and moth since they're so huge.
ahh i love the queen model it's so cool
i made that for my sister and sent it to her without looking at it and she sent it back saying it's too big and i was really confused so i put it out on display and was actually shook ☆

Well done! I'm still trying to get that and the Giant Trevally I even watched a YouTube video for tips, whether to stand on the edge of the pier or facing straight, still no luck, but I'll get there eventually... hopefully!!

I did get a Barreleye from the pier last night, so that's something at least! I didn't even know of that fish lol

i had never heard of the giant trevally until i randomly caught it tbh, i guess that was all the luck i got aha
i had also never heard of a mahi-mahi or a barreleye until my sister caught them

tbh collecting 3 of the same fish puts me off getting models of rare ones like a mahi-mahi
but then i don't want models of the more common ones like a sea bass
pretty much the reason i don't have many fish models lol
Ugh I know, it's like, technically you need 4 fish (with the extra 1 going to the museum). So like, why would I want to subject myself to that experience again, knowing that it's all up to chance but is necessary if I want the model lmao.
I agree; why would I want a model of a sea bass in my living room. Like it'd be taking up space, and I'd rather not be reminded of the number of times that I thought the fish I was catching was one that I needed, but ended up just being a stupid sea bass 💀
If I happen to catch 3 fish for the model, then fantastic! It's definitely not a priority for me though, so I couldn't care less tbh

Congratulations!!! It took me a ton of fish bait as well.
ty aha
and tysm again for the fish bait it was a huge help ☆☆☆☆☆

i might just store the rare ones away to make a model later if i happen to catch them by luck but i wouldn't be going out of my way just to catch 3 more mahi-mahis
catching 1 was stressful enough lol 😂

YES, that's exactly what I have been doing! Especially the bugs, I've stored many of them and have them ready to go for when Flick comes.
Lmao, I have PTSD from fishing, I almost forgot what it was like to have to stress over it tbh 😂

ooo congrats! it’s such a pretty fish - hopefully i can catch it at some point!

Congrats on the catch! This one was a pain for me too for a while. I'm now at the point where I only need 1 more for the model though :)

congrats!

can they only be spawned with bait or can we use the old method of entering and exiting a building to respawn the fish and insects? i'm going to try that instead because digging up and crafting all that bait is NOT something i feel like doing again.

I caught mine on a mystery island without using bait.

rainy days seem to give you more luck, even though you're using bait...

I definitely find this.

I don't even bother bait fishing off the pier unless it's raining any more!

I spent ages throwing bait after bait only to catch hundreds of regular fish, then the next day when it was raining I pulled out a mahi mahi and a great trevally within a few fish of each other.

I agree about the rain. It seems to boost chances of getting rare fish.

But anyway, it was raining and I really wasn't particularly searching for Mahi-mahi. Caught it by chance, I guess. I was looking for an olive flounder that my villager requested. There was a large shadow by the pier and was expecting a sea bass, but there it is.

i think you can find them without bait because i tend to run around a lot and have scared away many big fish at the pier lol
i probably scared the mahimahi away a few times 😅

congrats! i crafted around 50 bait the other day to try and catch the new pier fish and somehow got incredibly lucky and got both! it kinda threw me off because the vibrations for them weren't that of a "rare fish" so i thought both of them were sea basses at first lol.
