I FEEL HORRIBLE

That is absolutely terrible. And in no way do I think you should blame yourself. I don't think anybody should ever blame themselves for being scammed. Being a trusting person, and thinking others will treat you fairly, is not something to be ashamed of. THEY are the ones that should be ashamed for scamming a person.

I personally haven't traded villagers or gotten villagers from others on this game yet. Nobody ever seems to want to take the villagers moving off of my island, and I'm always giving them away for free. Simply because... I don't know. I don't really need anything that bad? I might mention an item or recipe I'm looking for, but that'd be about it. If Raymond ever comes to my island, I would be more than happy to let you have him for free when he eventually leaves. Granted, that probably won't be for a very, very long time... if ever. I don't do a ton of island hopping for new villagers, I tend to just go with the first one I see that is a different species from what I already have on my island, and doesn't make me want to run screaming in the other direction. xD But yeah, I'll keep ya in mind!

I'm sorry this happened to you. I've been scammed and stolen from so many times on nookazon and turnip.exchange. I just block them and try to forget about it.

yes, I think that's the only way to go about it...
this is but a game and yeah, scamming people are on the globe, I need to deal w/ it (come on, really :) )

just now, after playing animal crossing for nearly 10 years, I seriously got scammed by another player

I know, I may sound stupid, but I feel horrible and horrified

some people... REALLY !!!

just ventilating about it... sorry

That sucks, and whoever did that is a jerk. But just throwing out some positivity that in my experience the overwhelming amount of AC community are just really friendly and generous. Don't let one bad egg get you down :)

Also I find connecting with the right group on somewhere like discord helps avoid scammers... :)

Didn't read through the slew of responses, but if no one suggested it yet, give them a bad mark so others know not to do business with them. Some people just suck farts, it's the way of life. Hopefully one day karma comes rolling and they try to run, but they don't get far.

Sorry for your inconvenience. I only trade here and have never had a bad experience yet.

there is no need, just a bit fed up now and feeling like an idiot...
closing my switch for some time

thanks anyway
You were not an idiot. You trusted someone and it is on them not you.

This community is the best and I would love to make you feel better about yourself. I wish I had Raymond but please I can happily give you NMT s and @6iixx has kindly made a very generous promise.

Dont feel bad, as the song goes “shame on you if you fool me once, shame on me if you fool me twice” 💕

thanks for your kind words

it would be a help if people might want to keep an eye open, since I am a fulltime working mum and not a lot online :)
thanks all

I’ve been scammed before too. I’m really sorry.

It feels terrible. You tell yourself it’s just a game and it’s just all digital.

But it’s bad because of the intention. Someone wanted to take advantage of you. And dupe you. Take something for nothing.

Don’t feel stupid. You are valid in feeling upset.

I've heard mostly negative things about Nookazon. It's beginning to sound like the Craig's List of Animal Crossing.

I mean, I’ve never had an awful experience on Nookazon (other than one transaction that was tedious) but the community is a lot less tightly knit so word doesn’t spread as well. I also don’t really deal with villager trading anyways but I wouldn’t risk it there if I ever changed my mind (I’ve heard too many horror stories).

Sorry you ran into a jerk. I have Vesta in boxes if you need to fill a slot.

I'll be offline for a bit, but will check back.

For future reference, when if someone kicks you out and tries to scam, press the sleep button. This will interrupt all activity with a communication, and when you open up your game, you'll end up back at your island with all your stuff, unless there was an autosave after dropping your stuff.

I'm really sorry this happened. Nookazon can be a really awful place for AC players.

that is exactely it... the intention !
thanks for understanding

oh no! i’m so sorry. i know it’s hard, but try not to beat yourself up over this. it’s not your fault you were scammed at all; people can truly be awful at times. if you need anything or need help replacing what you were scammed out of, feel free to reach out and i’d be more than happy to lend a hand! 🧡

I can totally relate to your concern. Villager trading is one of the things I am extremely careful of even in this forum.

I had two negative experiences so far when it comes to trading villagers. Both of them has to do with Audie. (Seriously, this applies to any popular villager. It so happens that I always tend to get Audie when doing my island hopping sessions.)

I don't have any good advice to give except for trading only with players who has a lot of positive feedback. In fact, I am bound to adopt Judy from another player this Saturday. I am confident of the trade because she's reputable in this forum.

well, I do have good news...
I found another Raymond at a decent ('normal') price
he costed me everything I still had, but happy nevertheless

my villager team is now complete <3

as for the scamming part:
I learned my lesson, even kids scam adults, even on a "silly" game (great people those going to be in future 0_0 )

want to thank everybody above for being supportive and kind yesterday

Ah man I missed this thread yesterday, but I'm so glad you did end up getting Raymond in the end! I'm always so paranoid about doing online trades for exactly this reason, it's awful that people will scam others on Animal Crossing of all games??

So happy everything worked out for you. I am sure Raymond will be happy in his new home 💕
