Another thread judging villagers for their designs. Cool. Can people just like who they like and move on? I really don't see the point of these threads, at all. Every single person is gonna have different tastes in villagers which is perfectly fine, but I really don't think it's threadworthy lol

I hate to say it too because i love a lot of the weird designs, (Katt <3) and a lot of villagers grow on me after having them in my town, but there's a bit of an "appeal" factor that's missing for a lot. For instance I didn't like Chrissy because her eyes are just TOO big (and until NH, weirdly shaped bc of the way they shaded it). Peanut and Cookie should be a hit for me because they're pink and cute... but again, the eyes and faces are juuuust a little bit too off to really hit that home-run cuteness factor. Now Poppy, there's a squirrel that knows what she's doing, taps right into that "my melody" aesthetic.
I guess what i'm saying is that I love the weird and cool ones too, but if you're going for "cutesy", do it Right! I'm veeery picky about that stuff though.

I just wanted to share MY thoughts on Peppy villagers because I have seen almost unanomous praise for them. It's beyond annoying. I am not one to hate on things because they are popular (for example, I am on the side of people who LOVE Frozen), but these Peppy villagers? Just...why are they so popular?

sometimes you gotta air out your beefs! I disagree with you but its kind of fun to discuss aesthetics in a way that isn't just throwing insults imo. For instance i dont like ANY of the wolves! it's not their individual designs or anything, Audie has a great color scheme and look... but it's the whole character model. The snouts are too big and awkward and the head shape only allows for some weird eye placements that look bad at most angles. they just look so ugly! NH's models are SLIGHTLY better but not by much

I think the biggest reason the Peppy villagers just are not appealing to me, is that they try TO hard to be cute. I mean certain cute things are fine. Look at Judy and Ankha. They both are VERY cute, but feel well designed. Ironiclly none of my 'cutest' villagers picks come from the Peppys aside from Tammi. I feel that being cute and trying to be cute are two different things, and I feel Peppy villagers more often than not fall into the later.

Why people like something is subjective really and dependent on the person. But Peppy villagers seem so popular because people are naturally attracted to cute things and Peppy fits that bill. Besides, idols are extremely popular in Japan so this is probably why there are so many of them. The idol culture is massive in Japan and idol culture is basically what Peppy villagers are: cutesy and sweet. A lot of media that comes from Japan, you will find is influenced by idols because there is a bit of a girl band boom going on there. Girl bands/groups are more popular than they've ever been.
Ruby is my favorite villager and she's Peppy. She isn't as over the top as other Peppy villagers are but I fell in love with her since she's based off of the moon rabbits folklore.

Yeah I'm not fond of the overly cutesy look a lot of peppies tend to have. Sometimes they look a little much to me (Cookie and Apple as an example, though I definitely understand the appeal). I prefer the more lowkey peppies.
Also if y'all don't stop sleeping on gorillas, rhinos and hippos, the holy trinity of species' in this game, I'll flip chunks.

I love Rosie because she was my first favorite villager in the first game. Felicity has sorta grabbed my heart too although I really wish the dialogue was more varied, I'm constantly seeing the same phrases every day though it's not unique to Peppy villagers. I really hope they work on this in updates. When she DOES say something I haven't seen yet, it's adorable.

Because even if you don't like something, or don't understand why people like something, other people are still allowed to like it? Everybody has different, unique tastes. I think it's great that you like the more unappreciated villagers, but you don't need to knock the popular ones in return.
Peppy villagers are popular simply because they're cute. There's Cookie, Flora, Chrissy, etc, all pink and cutesy, which is a popular theme especially in the Animal Crossing fandom. They have fun bubbly personalities, and they can be relatable to some people. That's all there is to it.
Like I said, it's perfectly fine that you have an opinion; everybody is going to have villagers or personalities that they like and don't like. I just don't see the point in making a whole thread about it other than to make people feel like they have to defend the villagers they love.
