Hello, mayors!

I don't understand anything about villagers... even though it's a huge part of the game.
Actually, I never even to talk my villagers. And I mean, never. Not even an introduction.

The only thing I understand is that villagers move in and out.
Because villagers move, how can people have dreamies?
Won't they eventually move?

Isn't it usually 9 dreamies? Or is it 10?
Either way... if a new villager (the last villager) moves in that isn't your dreamie, won't one of the dreamies have to move?

Basically my question is...
How do you get ALL your dreamies and get them to stay?

I hope what I said makes sense.
It's two in the morning and I'm so tired, lol.

But you seriously don't talk to them? :o

It's that easy?

No, I don't. Lol.
My town is purely for breeding hybrids (my favorite thing to do right now)...
Which involves a lot of TTing.
So when I get a second copy, I won't time travel and will focus on them.

eh it's not that hard to keep all your dreamies from moving imo

but seriously I'm surprised that you haven't even talked to your villagers at all o_o

I've talked to Gala before. Maybe five times. I love her.

But I usually just start up the game, organize hybrids that popped up, water all hybrids I want to breed, quit the game, and then TT to the next day. Repeat process. It's really quick.
Not much time to talk to villagers.

Is it fun?
Talking to them?
Don't they just say the same things over and over again?

Yes, usually they will. However, if you talk to villagers daily, they should 'ping'. The ping alerts you that they're moving, and you can either deny their move or encourage them to move.

Isn't it usually 9 dreamies? Or is it 10?

People usually have 10 dreamies so they can fill their entire town. However, it's definitely okay to have less than 10.

Either way... if a new villager (the last villager) moves in that isn't your dreamie, won't one of the dreamies have to move?

No. It's possible to move out the most recent move-in, though it is difficult.

How do you get ALL your dreamies and get them to stay?

Go to plaza, buy them, win them, etc.
I've already explained how to get them to stay.

They have more lines than you'd think. However, they sometimes start repeating themselves if you talk to them too much in one day.

One trick with TTing.
If you deny a move, you can TT as far ahead as you want and no one will move out.

I remember a villager pinged once and asked me to move. I encouraged it (I don't remember the gender) to move, and "it" decided to stay to work on our relationship. I thought it was so funny, lol.

Thank you so much for all the answers, Lafiel!

I actually had paula move in through someones void and was to lazy to get her out the hard way so I went with the easy way. Took out one of my villagers. It actually wasn't hard since walt was my least favourite dream villager but I got papi in return

Eh wow, personally I hate breeding hybrids, it just takes too long... I'll let them pop up on their own, haha. I mean if that's what you like to do...!!! :D keep doing it!

Though for real I love just collecting all the stuff in the catalogue even though i'll maybe use like, 1% of that crap. I looove talking to all my villagers, even if they do repeat themselves sometimes. They can be hilarious, even creepy sometimes, ahh. Though, i've been trained by RPGs to never let any NPC go unspoken to, ever.
Ever.

I talk to my dreamies at least twice a day and walk around them lots and talk to other villagers in case they say one of my dreamies are moving. That way they don't move out and if they do , I can move them to my other town

I honestly don't think I would turn on the game so often if it wasn't for the villagers.

Even since I was little I would get attached to things quickly (friends, stuffed animals, book characters...) so that might contribute to my love for my villagers, but I also think that so much in ACNL revolves around them. Everyone plays the game differently, but I would get so bored with the game if i just bred flowers, haha! The different personalities, jokes and items the villagers can give you are well worth the time it takes to have a conversation with them imo. I think you should give talking to them a try!

Anyways, people just fall for the looks and personalities of certain villagers i guess. I don't really have dreamies, but i have favorites for sure.

so who are your dejected villagers

There are so many...
My recent one is Maple.
She was just voided in the last five minutes.
I've also voided some hideous villagers and Bam, Dierdre, etc.
I've only given away a villager once — it was Fauna. A user really wanted her.

Ever.

I always see hilarious moments on Tumblr. I wish I encountered those. But never.
When I did talk to then, it was always "Buy this carpet from me." or "I want fruit." or "Look at the sky."
So boring.

Maybe I should play the game properly and try to enjoy them.
They are cute after all — well, some of them.

it's boring because you haven't gotten to know them. the villagers show more depth / more interesting dialogue (IE the hilarious moments) when you talk to them more, similarly to when you talk to a real human being more. i would never play animal crossing if i wasn't interested in the villagers at all.

It just requires talking to your villagers, and being careful.

I used to be interested in villagers. I played all the time and would talk to them.
And then my son was born, so I took a break — a loooong break of nine months.
That's when my disinterest came about.

You guys are really persuading me to talk to them.
My opinions are really changing.

*goes to talk to every single one of my villagers*

i don't understand why certain villagers like marshal and stitches are so popular

with marshals i get that you can get the sloppy set, but you're better off just buying the sloppy set, which is much cheaper and faster

and stiches look like a dead teddy bear, what with his X's for eyes

I've never had Marshal in my town and I've gotten a few items from the sloppy series.

I love Marshal!
He's a smug villager but he resembles a marshmallow...
How cute is that? VERY.

Stitches is ugly. I don't know why he's popular.

Everyone has their own interests. I am interestd in villagers, but no interest at all in landscaping. There was a time when all i wanted to do was complete the museum. And i tted like crazy to get that done. So yeah, thats whats cool aout the game. It evolves as your interest changes. :)
