when i used the amiibo i rushed and got the thing he asked for, but then when he asked to move i swear i said that he should, but he said something about inviting him again sometime- is there anyway to still get him to move in???

You have to invite Amiibo campers three times (and craft a souvenir for them three times) in order for them to move in!

You can only invite them once a day so it'll take another 2 days to move him in as well

The above posters nailed it. The amiibo invite system has a few days worth of quests/crafting to do for the villager you want to invite before you'll get the option to have them move in. You're on the right track.
