Hybrid Question

My hybrids aren't growing! I have my flower laid out like this:

Where X is a rose. Also I have my pansies like so:

Where P is pansies. No hybrids are growing. I'm watering with a gold can and they're on my beach. What am I doing wrong? Also, all the red flowers previously stated are the hybrid reds.

I plant mine in a diamond pattern and they seem to do quite well.

Where X is empty and O is a flower. This seems to maximize the space a hybrid could grow in.

I do this method but I put fertilizer where the middle X is
