How Would You Defend Yourself?

There are many ways people believe the world will end. However, every time in movies and shows, none of the average people are prepared for the worse. Within the realistic limits, assuming our world will be threatened by someone or something, how would you defend yourself? Make it realist, no supernatural powers. I personally would choose a very large sword. So, I could split anything in two.
