How useful is the megaphone, truly?

i'm surprised so many people have a problem with the megaphone because i don't? it's pretty consistent for me, so i find it rather useful. of course it's not perfect, and there have been a few times where it registers the incorrect villager, but if you're loud and clear enough, i find that it works pretty well. i have a pretty neutral american accent btw, if that even matters.

I have no trouble with it either. In fact, i find it incredibly useful sometimes. It even registers W. Link if you say "Wolf Link" and i find that interesting. Nearly every time i use it, it works.

It's kind of frustrating sometimes. I say a name but another villager answers!

I always use it to check if Phineas is in my town for new badges, which seems to work most of the time. In fact, it works for most of my villagers except for Cece, often Julian replies which I don't get as the names of those two vilagers aren't even similar... Oh well, I think that microphone quality could be an issue as well. Have you ever tried the 3DS sound record feature? The quality is really bad...

I used it to check if Gulliver was in my town again and the message "No response..." was displayed.
Then, I went to the beach and Gulliver was there, he was going to Singapore.

Works fine for me. Sometimes it gets the name wrong, but I just say it again more clearly. It's a life saver sometimes when you need to deliver something to a specific villager.

And sometimes the megaphone won't work at all.

I love it and it works really well for me, esp if I'm PWP farming and trying to Ping a certain villager. However I should disclose that I am Canadian and have a very bland and indistinct accent >_<

Beau isn't pronounced either of the ways you mentioned. You pronounce it as boh.

Luckily my town is full of villagers with easy names. But with Ava, she never responds to "ay-vuh", but she responds to "ah-vuh". Whenever I say "ay-vuh", Julian answers. x.x

The megaphone is also good to know if a villager is close for you.

If you calls Fauna's name when she is in the camera, for example, then she'll bow for you if your friendship with her is big.

If not, she'll look confused then it means she haven't got close enough as friends.
