Is there a way to see which fossils you need left? It seems every single fossil I try to donate now, already is in the museum so my guess is that I'm real close to finishing.
In New Leaf there was a list outside the museum. I can't seem to find something like that in this game. Do I really have to go one by one and make a list on my own, based on what I can see inside the museum or is there any easier/faster way?
there is no way to know, you have to painstakingly go thru an list offline, check off all the fossils you got and look for others. I recommend downloading an app for phone with lists. By the time I was done with my fossils, I didn't know about phone apps. I'm on android and I use ACNH Life. I use it for bugs,fish and art and it has been ok.
With the skeletons, it's really easy to see which one is complete. The harder ones to id are the solo ones. There's also a nook mile achievement for assessing a lot of fossils. I manage to finish my museum before that so I'm still bringing stuff to Blathers instead of ignoring the fossil spots on my island. So I wouldn't worry about completing it quickly. There's also no reward for finishing the fossil section
There is a checklist that you can use in addition to your phone app that helped me a lot; as the article mentioned, you can see what fossils you have collected by going to your catalogue->wallpaper/flooring->fossils.
It does suck that there isn't any Fossilpedia of sorts. It could've helped a lot.
But yeah, we have no choice but to manually check all the donations we've given. I even had to consult a YouTube video that has a complete fossil museum to see what I'm missing. Using the available ACNH phone apps didn't cross my mind until I've only got 5 fossils left to donate.
You can see any fossils that you've had in your inventory in the catalog, so if you've donated every fossil you've ever had in your possession, the catalog should be accurate to what you've donated, and anything missing is what you still need.
