Some might already know this from an earlier post, but I think it's good to make an own theard for it since it disappears really easy under the other posts and therads, plus it's still actual, concerns frequently players because you can't control your void and just happened to me.
I picked up a voided villager and was supposed to adopt someone else's villager.

This will only work as long the villager hasn't set his plot yet. So it won't work when you can already see the 3x3 square-taking fence with the sign from which you can read the villager's name.
I did it on the same day, I got the villager from the void.

You just need to TT 2 days backwards. That's all. After you TTed the days back and you can pick up the wanted villager!

That's how it was described and has worked for me :)

I hope this helps, if anything's inarticulate or some has already experience with it, please let it the community know and hopefully we can work out problems, if there are any :)

Wait a minute...do you mean if you've loaded a permanent character it's too late? Or do you mean that it can won't work even if you use the new file trick. Because if it's the latter case then it's tbh pretty useless...

As long as you didn't load the game on a new day, I guess it has to work, but I'm not sure about this. Myself I loaded the game 2-3 times with my mayor on the same day.
The new file trick can just move the plot, unfortunately it can't let a villager's plot dissappear :(
I think it's not that useless because there are sometimes situations where you have a villager in boxes, let the villager pick up and afterwards you want adopt your dreamie but then you notice that you've got already a voided villager from the player who picked up your boxed up villager, in this case it would be helpful ;)

If the villager has not set a plot, how do you know you picked up a void? I got one from a void, but my first clue was the plot being there.

If you know that no villager will move out when you TT backwards you can do this to be sure not to get a villager from the void, in this case you can't know it, just assume.
If you want to pick up a villager the same day you wifi'ed or streetpassed (with) some before you want to pick up your dreamie but received already the voided villager so that you can't adopt the villager you wanted, you can be sure that you've got a voided villager.
