Does anyone have any tips on how to catch one? I've caught the stringfish and even the coelacanth but I can't find an oarfish.

Just have to keep trying, since they're available all day in every weather condition. Keep in mind that their shadow is longer and thinner than a sea bass shadow.

A tip to getting rare fish relatively faster than usual is scarring away fish whose shadow you know isn't what you want. If you do that you'll get more huge shadow spawns. When I was trying to get an oarfish I got a lot of tunas instead, but you can easily differ the oarfish because it's really thin compared to the other shadows.

The oarfish has a very long and thin shadow while the sea bass has a more round shadow. It has the same size shadow as the tuna and coelacanth. Fish when it's not raining or snowing so you don't have to deal with catching a coelancanth (that's likely the first and last time I'll write that sentence).
