I don't know. Some dates might be important, others might just be thrown in there to specifically make the randomness more random, and the occurrences more rare. What's really sad is there are time periods where there is a 0% for weeks.
It definitely helps sharing this guide, because it will help others understand just how rare they are, and why they may have not seen any in weeks, or even since the start.

I have not had a meteor shower in my town at all since launch. I’ve had a couple shooting stars but not an official shower

I never encountered them at all! From what I know, Isabelle should make an announcement.
Dec 10 was the snowstorm & start of the snowy season in New Leaf so maybe you get 0 bc of that?
not sure about Feb 24 & Nov 25, but maybe coincides with Festivale & Thanksgiving (harvest festival) respectively if they bring those back in

I've been playing daily since launch day and it was like maybe May sometime when I had my first meteor shower? Then this week I've had two! I hope it doesn't mean I'll be waiting months for the next one.
Had random meteors on random nights though. Sometimes when Celeste is there, sometimes when he isn't there too.

I'm not sure how accurate the guidebook is, but I have had three meteor showers since I started playing the game, two official ones. The first one happened on April 5 but I didn't get an announcement because I only started the game on April 3 and Isabelle wasn't on my island yet. The second one I got was on May 20 and I got another one last week on June 6, both of which Isabelle announced. I would say I got super lucky with the meteor showers.
I have played since the game released, every day, and have not had her announce it. Neither has my boyfriend or brothers and we all play constantly lol. However I have had a few nights with a bunch of stars which confuses me because they're like other islands I go to that have official meteor showers... but Isabelle didn't announce it so?

I had one two days ago. Isabelle announced it in the morning. I've been playing the game for quite a while and this was the first time she ever said anything about meteor showers.
