So, recently I went through another big change of my island! I moved the museum, my house, a second players house, and a few villagers houses!
Now, that I like these changes I see myself facing another problem: I’m all out of inclines! And I moved stuff with my plan to add 2 inclines 😭 so now I either need to remove 2 of the inclines I have and terraform so I can still navigate or terraforming my recent change so that it works without the additional inclines 😂 (I swear if I’d ever hack it would be for more inclines/ bridges 😂)
So probably I’ll end up making a lot of changes on my island again lol.
How about you guys? Did you ever terraform a lot, only to find yourselves facing problems you didn’t plan to have? And then had to everything again? Or terraforming mishaps? What was the most tedious thing you had to do over again? 😊

I got NH very recently and I'm already changing the decorations to make them a seasonal thing. :|

Lol I almost never change stuff. The cliff and river layout is almost identical to when I started, just tweaked to accommodate some areas.

literally all the time. I'm currently in the process of moving all the buildings to the beach so I can properly terraform my island. I think the most tedious part of the whole process is waiting a day for the buildings to move alongside the 50k bell cost, and building bridges/inclines in certain areas and then deciding I didn't want them, thus wasting millions of bells.

I’m changing everything all the time. I changed my paths over 4 times cause I didn’t like how it looked with my island theme. And I’m always walking past areas like oh I will add that later or move this here instead and so on :)

When I first got the game and finally got the ability to move houses and buildings, I spent so much money moving houses. I redid some inclines (unneeded ones too) two times as well. I plan on moving some again once I get Ankha and Marshal. I was happy with my layout but I want to make it better, even though I’m not even close to being done decorating my island. It’s too soon to tell, but I’ll probably redo some of my areas. Can’t do a lot right now with all these posters lying around for something I’m planning.

i don’t change stuff very often on my island; i’m too lazy to try and execute any permanent ideas, let alone anything that i’d ultimately end up changing lmaoo.

that being said, i’ve changed the design of my rooms a few times since i wasn’t in love with some of the ideas that i came up with and so, since i like interior design more than island decorating and terraforming, i put more thought and energy into my rooms than i did anything else :P

I don't change major stuff - cliffs, rivers, buildings, etc. My changes are more cosmetic. I'll change my house exterior, landscaping, displays. I tend to treat my games like real places, so I try to work within the existing framework.

I'm in awe of people who just flatten their island and create it anew, but my brain won't work that way.

I have this little garden area with butterfly models. I think I'll be changing the models every season. Just need Flick to show up now.

I also decided to redo my campsite because was too big.

I'm in the middle of re-doing most of my island because (while I love my current layout), I discovered that my visiting NPCs like to hang out right behind a cliff and I almost miss them a lot of the time. So, I'm visiting a lot of dream towns for inspiration and changing it up.

I change according to need.

I re-designed my island because, and I realized this later, it was not functional in the way it needed to be.

An example is this: Everyone has a river end in the south. But we all have a second end that is in the south or in the east or in the west. Mine are south and east. I found a number of islanders were not using furniture in their yards. That I was generous to them. But, they were not programmed to use them. So, I realized it was wasted space. So, while having the river beginning all the way back, in the northeast and the northwest, I realized I needed to change it. So I made changes. Beginning in June, I took screenshots of my island’s map and brought in pictures on Pages, on my iMac, and started planning a re-mapping. I figured out a balance between what I wanted to do and what I realized I could do. (In the case of the museum—what I should do.) Before this, I did not have a good flow for humans and islanders to navigate the west-side beach. With planning, and implementing the change, I created an easy flow for both sides—the east and west beaches—so that I could give humans and islanders their freedom to explore both sides. This also allowed me to figure out housing. I created neighborhoods for animals and humans. And, without going into much further detail, I am glad I made these moves.

When it comes to changing “things” on my island, I figure this is more about seasonal, exterior decorations. And I will deal with them as they come. But, there are some things I want remaining year-round. One of them are the hibiscus bushes that I am using. I don’t want to change them at all; not even when they are out of season. I am needing to organize more on flowers. I haven’t been in enough of a mood to really go to work on them. Part of it is uncertainty. But, I know I will get to them.

My changing “things” is more in the way of arranging and organizing. It is little by little. Not every day. Some days, I may be in a good enough mood to deal with them.

“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” was released six months ago. I have seen plenty of videos of islands that look like they were completed by people who grinded in order to make that happen. I have been in awe of some of them. But, at the same time, I don’t envy them. I don’t really want to do what they have done. So, I am taking my time. I am liking what is happening so far with the progress of my island. And, when I feel it is right, I will establish a Dream Address for Óhana.

I do make changes frequently depending on what new items I get, the seasons, new ideas that I have etc. Most of these are small changes (like changes the flowers in some areas to suit fall and adding a pumkin patch). I also have a dedicated seasonal area that I can change withouth having to overhaul anything else on my island. :)
