as some of you may know, in order to buy a cello in NH, you need to save up some bells. for the first time since i've played the game, my nook's cranny finally was selling a white cello. i had just managed to get the 130, 000 bells i needed from selling things and i scooped it right up immediately without a second thought. only.. as soon as i left my nook's cranny, chrissy popped up. with that bubble above her head. and i stupidly talked to her.

chrissy wanted to trade me for my cello. with a diner apron. any normal person would have, and probably should have, immediately told her no deal and kept the much sought-after cello. me, on the other hand? i bend over backwards for my villagers, and i want to make them happy by any means necessary.

even if that means trading a cello.. for a feckin' diner apron.. 😤

does anyone else go to great lengths just to appease their villagers like that? hopefully i'm not the only one just throwing things their way when they're like, ooh shiny i need that while they're looking around in the nook cranny shop.

Unless I feel like the thing they want will suit them (I honestly don't know if or how they use the traded items) I never let them have the random junk I'm carrying. I do, however, almost always cough up bells when they want to sell me garbage. Every so often it's actually something I like haha.

No. If it's stuff that changes their house or clothes, they won't get it.

The most desired item on Evershine is the garbage pail I always have in my inventory to get rid of flowers.

chrissy's got the cello set up in her house now :c

i guess i'm not too concerned with what they do to their wardrobes or home decor, because i'm not planning on gifting these villagers away. if i managed to come across someone like raymond, a character who's highly sought after, then i'd definitely attempt to keep his original clothes and home decor to the exact, so that i could gift him to someone who genuinely wanted him.

I do, but in my case itt very much depends on if i already have their picture or not, for the ones i dont have pictures yet i do what every they want me to do and if I already have their picture, well, I do everything but not to the point where i lose items i like or catch bugs if i am in a hurry

99% of the time I'll do the trade or buy the overpriced item from them, UNLESS it's something exclusive that I'll have to work 10x harder to get again. Ok, Bones, I'll buy your Full-Body Tights for 2,000 so you can buy yourself a new bag of chips.

I've given away items I wanted aswell as they wanted them and I usually buy whatever they are selling and catch whatever they can't seem to find. I did spend nearly an hour the other day looking for a river fish for Aurora and the next day Lucky asked me to look for a particular bug and I have to admit I did say he could do it. I usually dont mind but i was getting really frustrated with finding the river fish as i prefer sea fishing. I do try to get items for them I think they would like even if they cost a fortune...clearly I'm a pleaser 😂

In general I don’t bend over too much, I’ll buy things to help them and do trades, however if it’s a request for a bug I cheer them on because that response feels more native to my personality. ^^;
I’ll do anything for Sprocket, Raymond or Chadder though. Except the bug request since again, I like cheering them on more aha.

I will say I used to give in to all of their requests in previous games, however now I am a lot more picky given how expensive so many of the items in this game are!

I hate to see the houses get trashed, so I don't usually grant those requests, and I try to limit clothing to what actually looks good/suits their style. There are a couple of unfortunate instances, before I learned about screening presents, but we're getting them cycled out (looking at that instant muscles suit Snake gave Flora).

If they want me to buy something, I'll do that. I get the "hey, I have a couple of items here, want one?" ping often. I don't mind, as sometimes I'll get a new color/item. If not, it ups the friendship and I can afford the bells.

I like that if you choose not to hunt/fish a critter for them, it turns it into something positive. Instead of "nope, not gonna happen", you end up encouraging them to keep trying. I've already got Cherry upset because I sold the safety vest she wanted me to give Dobie (sorry, no); I don't need a bunch of pouting islanders because I won't catch crickets and sea bass for their houses.

If I'm buying something from a villager I will usually buy whatever and then regift / sell it, or rarely actually keep it for myself! If they want to trade something I'm holding, unless I specifically need it for something I'll probably say yes. But I have to say if they asked for an arcade machine or something I was carrying at the time, my answer would be NO!

It really depends on my mood and what item they want. In the case listed by the OP, that would’ve been a heavy nope. If it’s something random I got from a balloon or another villager that I don’t really need, I might be more willing to hand it over.

When I first started playing, I never said "no" to my villagers. I ended up paying for this when I realized that they could display whatever critter, furniture, or clothing that they received from you.

Nowadays, I'm more cautious about what I give them/let them have. I try to remember to go around talking with my residents with empty pockets. It helps me a lot once I learned that villagers don't get upset when you say "no" to their requests and respond with things like, "Oh, I'll figure out how to get this item another way."

I would usually refuse them if the items they are trading are just going to be clutter in my house/storage. Other than that I try to do what they want.

I'm very careful about what I give my villagers. I only gift them wrapped fruit if I'm trying to get their photo. I will give them clothing, but only if I dislike their original outfit, or I'm not planning on keeping them around.

I never buy the stuff they try and sell me lol, usually it's just clothes I don't want. It didn't really negatively effect my friendship with them, I have most of their photos now purely from the wrapped fruit method and nothing else.

man i just let them do whatever, except for catchphrases. everyone always wants a new catchphrase and i dont want them to get one and spread it so i just dont accept, however i may just start accepting their requests soon.

so far, letting my villagers take and get whatever they want has led to 1 very interesting scenario. Penelope and Octavian both have had fleas on my island, with Penelope being the very first and Octavian being the second. well, Penelope had gotten fleas again and i caught them, then i went to Octavian's house to give him his daily coconut. after i do that, i had a normal conversation with him, and he wanted to buy Penelope's flea. i nearly died on the spot but i had to give it to this dude. anyway i just want to give a PSA that i think setting out trash & rotten turnips on ur island causes ur villagers to get fleas more often. i dont rly have any numerical based evidence, but when i was trying to catch ants and flies for the museum and their models, a villager had a flea like every other day, but since picking up and selling those items, none of them have had fleas and it's been about a week or so. yea.

anyway i imagine when i actually get some dreamies i'll probably be more precise about what i allow them to have, or i'll just gift them clothes until they get out of an ill-fitting outfit that so-and-so gifted them.

If I see a villager bully another, i'm not going to put up with it! If I have an option to choose whoever looks better when a smug is talking, I am NOT choosing the smug. I will not support egotistical villagers. :)

I do nothing for them.

I built everything and paid for it myself.

I'm not a slave.

I already feel like a walking garbage can with the constant trips to the bin with stuff they dump on me after I selected NO I DON'T want it.

No means no, nintendo.
