How many villagers can I have in my town???

Anybody know the exact number? I hear 10 and/or 12 so I'm wondering, has anyone had 12 villagers?

That's what I thought. A few people were saying if you had a perfect town you could have 12.

In fact it could be nice.

There's another thread discussing about what could they implement in the next Animal Crossing, and never thought about that, but it would be nice that you could have 1 or 2 extra villagers if you have a perfect town. So if you mess up and lose that perfect town status, that last 1-2 villager/s just go into boxes
