How many animal villagers can we have?

I want 12-15 villagers but I fully expect there to be only ten again. I have no evidence of this except for a gut feeling

This is my gut feeling as well. I have some hope for a higher number due to the island size, but that's tempered by needing to support 8 players. I really hope there's more because I hate having to narrow down the villagers I want to so few.

I hope for 12 up to 15, as I think that this would be a nice amount for the island. Otherwise, it could be also just 10 villagers again, like how it was in New Leaf, which would be kinda bummer (as I want as much villagers as possible), but still acceptable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they kept it down to ten. I can see it getting really crowded, really quickly. But, booting the limit up to about twelve villagers would be really nice for the island. Even with a possible eight people living on it.

I was kind of disappointed or worried after initially learning that 8 people can live on it. Of course that's great for those who utilize those extra player slots or for people who have to share but it just makes it less likely that we'll be able to have more than 10 villagers. :/ As someone who plays on her own switch and won't be making any more than just one character, I would just really love it if I could trade those human resident slots for some extra animal ones.

How big is the island though?
It didn't look too big to me when they were showing the maps in the direct, maybe 10 should be the limit with all the customization you can do now. If not it might get too cluttered IMO

GameCube was able to have 15 villagers just fine on the limited area it had lol. I don’t see why NH couldn’t. The map does look fairly bigger than what we’ve seen in the past.

This is true. But ACG didn't have the all the extra landscaping features, and was basic in concept compared to NH.

Would I like 15? Sure! More the merrier!! I'm just worried that too many villagers will move in and cramp everything up

That’s a valid point yeah, lol. I think around 12 should be a good middle ground for that then! I think some screenshots are hinting towards around 12 so I’d be satisfied with that.

I just hope more than ten but less than fifteen. Something like twelve should be great ! Perfect number, for me.
I think ten is not enough, even though we have more place to fill in with items.

It would be great if it was capped at 10, but then you could use Nook Miles to cap it out again at 15. So that way the people who wanted more could have more and the people who want less could have less. I doubt this would happen, but at this time it is still a possibility.

I hope they bring up the maximum amount to 20. So that we have the option to crowd the island or have less and make the island less crowded.

I'm going to guess it'll be 10-12. This is the first time we'll be allowed to have 8 playable characters on one island and that will take up room too. Plus we'll need space for everything that was on main street in NL.
